NEED HELP Ring and pinion wear patterns?

Hey guys... so I'm a noob as far as setting up gears but I'm sure some of you can help me. I just finished assembling the front diff on the escalade and I was checking the drive and coast patterns... I'm not sure what to be looking for but this is what I have. First two are drive second two are coast.




Not an expert but I think they look okay? Thoughts?

You have your pics backwards. The first two are coast and second are drive. My son who just graduated from heavy equipment training had a look and he says that it's close but a bit off. Drive is too close to the heel of the ring gear but it is centered depth wise. Coast is however centered onto the gear heel to toe but is too much to the outer edge of the ring gear.

I found this chart which should help. Yours seems to look like the middle right one (shim correct decrease backlash):

Hmm... so the problem here is that I can't decrease the backlash, I'm at the lower limit (least possible) of what's acceptable according to the spec... what to do.

This is the best I can get. My backlash is at the spec... i had a thousandth to work with that i forgot about...

So long as it doesn't blow up I'm fine... too much backlash just clearances itself anyway, right?
