I recently romoved a K&N and reinstalled the stock OEM air filter in my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Very easy job that takes about 10 minutes as long as you don't drop any of the screws holding down the air box's cover. This should apply to all 2007 and newer Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras with the new body style 5.3L, 6.0L & 6.2L engines.
You will need:
T-20 Torx screwdriver
New filter
(Left and right is referenced from the driver's seat.)
First pop the hood and locate the air filter box at the right front of the engine compartment. Four screws hold its lid down. Three are very obvious but the lower front one is buried down low by the radiator overflow tube.
Air filter box -
Front screws (the hidden one is below the silver oil cooler line)-
Rear screws -
Carefully remove all four with the Torx screwdriver keeping a good grip on them esspecially the buried one.
With all four screws out, tilt up the top of the box. (Here the filter is already removed.)
Slide your filter in and out. Make sure its gasket is properly seated before closing the lid.
Reinstall the four screws and tighten to snug. They are only biting into plastic so do not strong arm them.
