Rear tailgate window will not go back up in XUV

The rear window in my 04 XUV will not go back up. I can hear the motor running, but nothing happens. I assume the cable broke. Does anyone know the part number for the rear window power regulator. I had to replace the midgate one a few months ago because the plastic where the cable fit into broke. I guess they had about the same life span. Neither the roof or the tailgate will open either now, which I assume is because the computer doesn't know the position of the window, so it will not let them open.

I see a few midgate regulators on Ebay, but zero rear gate units. Dorman makes an aftermarket midgate unit as well.

Hmmmmm, one site hints that they may be the same part. Nah, can't be. gm-partscenter.com has a different GM list price for each of them, with the midgate one more $$. Have to wait for one of the XUV specialists to chime in.

The Dorman midgate one is the one I replaced earlier this year.

I have found two part numbers, but for the same part???
ACDelco #19210376 This one is cheaper.
ACDelco #15138199

Which is right?

First one confirmed at nalleygmc.com to be the one you want. Shockingly low price on Ebay. Second one available, but double the cost. Perhaps an earlier version of the same item that was redesigned?

Looks like they split the part up and gave it new part numbers.

ACDelco #19256364 motor
ACDelco #19210376 regulator

Hope it is easy to get out and replace now. Anyone every do this and have some advise?

Took about 1hr to replace it by myself. I had to completely remove the rear window to get the regulator out. I just couldn't get it to clear the bottom of the window with the window all the way up. Even so, I still thought it was easier than the midgate window and I had someone to help me do the midgate window.

Great, something else I can look forward to doing in the future as a fellow XUV'er. I replaced the midgate regulator this spring and just had to have the tailgate touchpads this summer (I couldn't get the stupid things out!).

Guess I better bookmark this post!

Open the XUV rear tailgate with broken regulator hint. I could not get the bottom latch to open manually to replace my regulator. So I did the next best thing, make the electric motor to the work and all you need is a jumper wire. Unplug the tailgate control module on the tailgate, taking a jumper wire from A (org. wire) on the small connector (12 vt power) to the 13 pin (Wht/Blk wire)on the larger connector to release the upper latch then to the 14 pin (Tan/Blk wire) to release the lower latch. Once the gate is open this regulator is about a 20 min. project. Amazon has the (ACDelco 19210376 GM Original Equipment Tailgate Window Regulator) unit for $82.

Hope this save you the four hours in the summer heat I wasted this week on this project.

I just had the same problem with the window, and it looks as though the cable has snapped. The window goes up and down, but on an angle and the right side doesn't move well at all. Opened everything up and found the broken cable. Will this mean the same process as explained above? Or is it easy enough to change the cables themselves?

LOL. I get to do it again almost exactly 7 years later. Looks like they only last about 7-8 years. 04 replaced in 12 then again in 19.

My mid-gate was replaced in 2012 and died a few years after that. The replacement didn't last 4 years. And we didn't even use the mid-gate much. Maybe once a year. I didn't feel like fixing it again, so I just left it down. But, the tailgate is a little more important. :2thumbsup:

A bit of info regarding the mid-gate. With Dorman part # 741-072

Autozone offers the best price than any where else (including amazon and ebay) at 160, and also offers it with a lifetime warranty. Or 136 for the ACDelco with a 1 year warranty.

Still looking for the rear-gate specific part #'s.
