Have an after market radio installed, been working fine for a couple years now. A couple weeks ago I noticed it doesn't turn off when I turn the key off and open the drivers door. Have to remove the face plate or turn off by pushing the power button. When I go to start the TB with the radio on it turns off when the switch is turned to the start position and then comes back on. Might be a coincidence but I noticed the door chime doesn't work now. Someone suggested it might be the ignition switch. It had 145,000 miles on it, and since they are a known problem changed it. Didn't fix the problem.

Did the aftermarket radio come with the vehicle when you got it, or did you pay somebody to put it in. Sounds like the adapter harness died, which all aftermarket head units need to handle the power and chime functions. Do you know which one was installed?

Another thing to try - does it turn off if the passenger door is opened? Maybe the driver door open switch is bad.
If you open the driver door and the radio keeps playing, do the windows still work also?

This is the 2nd aftermarket radio, 1st one was stolen. Everything still works fine except the shut off feature and the door chime. Even with the passenger door open it continues to play after the key is turned off. Windows, locks everything is good to go.

As far as the adapter harness not sure what kind was used. Obviously there are quality and cheap ones out there, any suggestions on which ones are good? And is it something that can just be swapped , ie unplug the old one and just plug the new one in?

Thx for all the responses

You should fill in your vehicle info in your profile so we'd know the year.
Also, is it bose or not?
