Question about speaker wiring in trailblazer

I am about to put new speakers and head unit in my 2002 trailblazer (non-bose/non-onstar). I have a question about the speaker wiring if I ever decide to run a 4 channel amp.

I would run the RCA pre-outs to the amp. Then could I run the speaker wires back to the wiring harness and run the amplified signal through the factory wiring to the speakers? Or would I have to run the wires directly from the amp to the speakers?

On my bose, I did it that way. But I hooked into the factory wiring at the rear amp. Your's will just require a little more wire.

It would work, i have a 4 channel amp, but i ran new speaker wire to each door, i have a habit of over doing things and wanted a heavier gauge wire.

If possible I'm going to try running through the factory wiring, at least for the front speakers. I just paid the $30 for that little box at Walmart that retains the door chimes, so you can bet I'm going to make sure its still connected to my speakers.

If you don't care about retaining door chimes/etc., then in the past I've had better luck with running all new speaker wire. For example, I've owned three Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ's, and installed 4-channel amps in them. Each time I re-used the factory wiring, the amp would somehow pickup a whine from the engine in rainy or cold weather. The problem always went away if I used all new wire.

Wait, so the chime will go away if I install new speakers? I'm about to install some myself and wanted to just connect them to factory wires.

If you ONLY change speakers, the chimes remain. It's only if you change head units without using an adapter that you lose the chimes. The chimes come FROM the OEM head unit through the left front speaker. GM was too cheap to use a separate little speaker, so they used the radio that was already there.

In other words, if you run all new wire directly from your amp to your speakers, and your amp gets the audio signal from an aftermarket head unit via RCA cables, then you will lose your door chimes.

Your incorrect when replacing factory radio u purchase a door chime modual (metra or brands) it retains the chime in the modual u dont loose the chime completely comes from the dash oppose to the speakers. When I rewired my tb I installed a small alpine 4 channel under passengers front seat and ran all wirring under fenter council expect for power and ground

Right, BUT you have to run the speaker wires through the module (which connects to the factory wiring to get the chime signal from the vehicle). What I said was that if you connect the speakers directly to the amp, BYPASSING the factory wiring, you won't have a door chime (the module needs a signal from the vehicle and to be wired in-line with the speakers).

You could technically run your speaker wires to the dash, through that module, and to the door speakers, but at that point you kind of defeat the purpose of bypassing the factory wiring in the first place.

why go through all that hassle when you can just buy a GMOS-01, -04, or Scosche equivalent wire harness adaptors... i mean if you're on a budget, then thats one thing... but to keep my truck stock and have aftermarket goodies, i paid a little extra for the convenience factor and ease of installation...

but if you dont care for chimes, then go to wally world and get the basic $15 wire harness :rotfl:

The only wires that run through the modual is power and ground and modual creates the acc, so speaker wires dont go through modual unless its a bose system which in that case u plug in rcas to run signal to factory amp
