Hi guys, I'm curious to know where is everyone hooking up the power wire for there after market head units? are you guys going to the battery? front fuse box or rear fuse box? or tapping into a different power source? I've hooked up a couple head units in my time but have always just tapped into a fuse in the fuse box and called it day, however I want to make sure I'm doing it right with the Envoy.
Thanks for the help

The OEM head units get constant power without going through the ignition switch. If you want switched power that will also stay on after you turn the key off until you open a door (called RAP or Retained Accessory Power), you need an adapter. Search for "adapters" or "GMOS" and there's a lot of data available. An adapter will also retain your warning chimes, that otherwise an aftermarket head unit will not support.

i personally like to run 12ga off of the fuse block feed, into a fuse holder. off of that feed a relay switched by the accessory circuit, then 2 strands of 12ga to the dash (one constant power one switched), and use those to power any accessories I have.

I have had issues with getting power from the factory harness inducing noise, especially when the seat heaters are on

I'm using an OS-2bose interface to hook everything up to, however it has a spot for the ign/acc switch but not the main power, unless I'm missing something?

Thanks for the input

i have that harness, there is definately a wire for power. It's the red wire coming from the relay.

red should be switched, yellow should be constant.

the red wire coming off the relay is for the acc off the radio, I have a yellow wire coming off the radio for power, is there a wire off the interface harness for power or would it be best to run it to a fuse panel?

sorry for the confusion, my apologies

I appreciate the help. Im not at my house right now to double check this so I'm going off memory, but i think i have the yellow wire off the chime module hooked up to pin 16 the yellow wire, if thats the case do you see any problems with me running both the chime and the HU off the yellow wire at pin 16?

If i remember correctly, that's what i had to do. Dont tap the chime wire, tap the number 16 wire. That chime wire is tiny!

You are welcome, sorry about the confusion earlier. While you are working on it, you should consider a tablet install. Just sayin.
