I couldn't find a thread dedicated to this on this site, so I'm making one. Post pics of your exhaust tips.

This is my 2004 Rainier V8 w/ Silverline exhaust tip and resonator delete. It's a bit louder and deeper outside the vehicle, but there is no noticeable increase in sound from inside the vehicle. It passes the wife test. Ran about $65 OTD at a local shop. I gave the new tubing two coats of high-temp black paint to mitigate rust.

Not sure about the tips specs as I went with what he had on hand that looked good and I haven't bothered measuring it. Looks to be about 12"-18" long, rolled edge, slash cut, 3"-4" wide - exactly what I wanted. Stock tubing into and out of my resonator was 2.75".

This is the only one i could find but ill take a more detailed one later. I have a flowmaster muffler on as well. I did mine myself with pipe from the local auto parts store. SOoooo much better than that trashcan haha. I think it ended up costing me about 40$ not including the use of my dads welder haha.

90 degrees out the right side behind the rear tire.

Found one on Ebay for half price. Still pricey, but couldn't pass up a bargain. Thanks to barron03 for the part #.

Thanks. As my daughter would say "that makes it sooo beautiful!". Straight out of the box, just got back from the muffler shop. It'll probably never be that shiny again .

What exactly is the point of cutting off the trash can? LoL.
Is there a performance gain? I could go out and cut mine off I hate it its ugly!!!!!! Maybe I'll turn it into a real trash can
Anyone have a suggestion on what to cut and where?
I don't make a lot of money of course if I did I'd go with borla duals.

I can't speak for the I6, but on the V8, it simply sounds better without it. It sounds the way a V8 should sound, and, on the Buick, it's not any louder in the cabin.

You can see where to cut it in the pic I posted: right past the hanger. There isn't much space between the hanger and the resonator.

I looked into doing it myself, and I couldn't get the parts and supplies cheap enough to where it made financial sense for me to do it. If you have access to pipe and the tools to flare it and such, that's a different story. Make sure you have the right welding equipment for the metals you'll be working with.

thanks and haha I have no idea. I was coming home from picking up my 4 new winter tires/rims and just wanted a clip of the sound on the inside of the car (which is why I let off the gas between shifts) I really like the gurgle sound it makes. but now I might go do a faster clip tmrw

I like that tip, I been looking for a long time and I think that would fit in my exhaust cut out in my Denali bumper cover. What make is the tip, I wonder where I could get one from like that? 2.75" going in and maybe 6.5" (across) going out??

I'm not one to mod for the sake of modding but I have to say that resonator was a design flaw. Mine was getting plugged from the fiberglass packing collapsing and every time I got on it to pass or downshift up hill it hissed something fierce. Solution was a 90 degree bent pipe and clamp from the parts store ($10) and a stainless tip from Walmart ($9.88). I used self tappers right into the existing pipe instead of the ridiculous ones that come with those tips, and it slid on with almost no gap. To ensure the maximum length of the stock pipe I used a cold chisel to perforate the seam where the pope entered the res, which gave me another two inches to work with and that was enough to clear the mudflap. This pic was taken last year about this time and it still looks good.

ohhhhh man I miss it too...its terrible. I watch them weekly and its even worse because I almost have it all rebuilt N/A and wanna fire it up but its just too cold and snowy for my girl to do the welding of the exhaust (and I promised I'd let her haha)

SOON THOUGH ! it should be roaring to life and having fun even if it is not turbod anymore. it was faster 0-60 n/a than with the turbo anyway just sounded cooler with it haha

I advocate strongly for side swept dual exit tips out in front of your rear tire! (I may be a bit biased though :rotfl: )

Here's mine with no cat and just the stock muffler at idle and a couple revs. I can only imagine how yours will sound straight-piped  Please excuse the crappy camera-work.

http://youtu.be/XXiy6ZzqmlM

EDIT: I must be stupid or something - how do y'all get the YT vids to show up here as vids instead of links?

Also, I'll tell you firsthand from my experience - you're gonna want to dump that exhaust either in front of or behind the rear tire cause a 4.2 STINKS when it's not catalyzed like no other non-catted vehicle I've ever smelled. And you don't want that crap coming out right under the front door. Trust me.

Closer to rear wheel than front. Directly under rear door.
