On the wings of some information recently provided by @m.mcmillen in an Ecotec Engine Repair Thread, this Technical Discussion seems relevant about comparing the performance differences between the common Port Fuel Injection Systems vs. the Newer Direct Injection Fuel Delivery Systems and the negative consequences and long term maintenance implications of using these Later Model DI Fuel Delivery Systems.

This film also as implications not only for theoretical side of how the Direct Fuel Injection works on Foreign Cars... and may work in similarity on the GM Ecotec Engines… but for the GM LL8 Engines as well when trying to use Oil Catch Cans for the Re-Cycling of Blow-By Gases in the OEM PCV portion of the EVAP System. This Catch Can Technology is discussed at around 12:00 along the timeline of this Video.

There is a LOT of information to digest here ...and watching this film may prove interesting and perhaps even useful for anyone considering using a suggested "Baffled Design " for an Oil Catch Can on the GM 4.2L Engine as well:
