ACDELCO Part # 1511006 is what worked in my 03 Envoy

And does that part have the angle to it? the photo on rockauto for that part shows a straight pipe from the engine mount side to the hose side.

It was an exact fit including the curve. Often what's confusing is the thermostat and housing are one unit. Most stock photos don't show the curve.

This link is from Amazon's site showing vehicles it fits:

Amazon.com: ACDelco 15-11006 Thermostat Housing: Automotive

Yeah replacing the sending unit is prudent since your in the neighborhood esspecially if you pulled the alternator. If you get a new sender, take the teflon tape off and put new on but only 2 - 2.5 wraps. Mine came with 3 or 4 and that is too much. It balled up as I was tightening it and leaked. If you can find an 18mm sensor socket (similar to an O2 socket with a slit for the sensor wire) you will make replacing that a lot easier. Failing that I ended up using a crow's foot wrench on my socket driver. Also a stubby flex head ratcheting wrench is good for the lower alternator bolt. 15mm IIRC, same size as the upper bolts.
