P0014, now P0340

This is an 03 Envoy XL with a 6 cyl engine.
I have had intermittent P0014 codes for well, years.
In general the newer the oil is the less I see that code.
When I am due an oil change I get it more.

I have changed all the parts that are external in that area. The solenoid valve with the little screen, the position sensor, and one other I think. It's been a while. Changing those parts did not stop the code from being set, so it's likely the problem is with the internal cam positioner, which because of the age, mileage and the PITA I decided to not fix it. I put some rislone in with each oil change in an attempt to flush it out. Over the years this has made that code more rare, but not gone completely.

Yesterday I got the SES light and the code reader instead of the P0014 says P0340.
That's also related to the cam position.

What's changed? What should I look for?

The cam sensor. Did you use an ACDelco?

You really think sensor, and not something to do with the cam itself?
What moves the cam inside the engine?
Does that have problems that could cause this?

I think that sensor came from Oreilly. If so it will likely be under warranty.
I changed it long ago to try to resolve the P0014 but it didn't resolve it.
I have had those codes intermittently since I have had the vehicle.
They are much less when the oil change is fresh. More when I am due for a change.
Is there anything internal to the engine that can cause this? Caused by sludge or something? There should be. But they might not fail.

I have a similar issue with my 06 when it is close to due an oil change. I ran a flush in there before doing the oil change. I have actually had less issues.

It turns out the Cam position sensor is BWD. I found the receipt from 2013.
I went and picked one up at Oreilly, which I can get my money back for when I take the old one back.
I put it in last night, and drove around a while and I did not get the P0340 code.
It might be resolved.

I doubt they'd refund on a 4 year old sensor unless it has a lifetime warranty, which I doubt.
