Odd noise that seems to increase with Rpm

I have a noise that comes from under the truck and almost sounds like zip ties on my driveshaft and I cannot figure out what it could be, Or it sounds like a heat shield is getting hit by the driveshaft but nothing seems to be out place. Any ideas? I mean It's just driving me crazy. Thanks for all your help,
Trent

You have looked up under there and don't see anything? I would definitely get up under there so I could see it at different angles.

Does it increase in neutral or only in drive?

I agree with DJThumper and getting down and dirty to hear where it is coming from. Could be the heat shield or Resonator. Or zip ties on the driveshaft.

Get under there. If you don't have another body to throttle the gas, a long stick or broom will work if you can get low. Upload a video?

Chock the front wheels, raise up the back wheel and put it in Drive (use jack stands of course). Then take a look underneath with a friend in the driver seat reeving ever so slightly.
It could be anything from exhaust pipes, tranny, transfer case, u joints, front CV joints, something.

The resonator is making a noise and I'm planning on dumping that ASAP, but Im going to get under there this morning again and look. It's hard to hear where it's coming from because the noise only occurs between 2000 and 2500 rpms. Usually after 40mph or so it stops...

At that point the airflow over the zip ties keeps them flatter and they don't hit. :rotfl:

Seriously, they would make the most noise at slow rotation, so yours really needs to go on a lift to diagnose.

There is not any zip ties underneath the vechical. I cut off the resonator today and that eliminated most of the noise but I still have a dragging type noise that sounds as if something is dragging on the cement below the vechical but I think that could be caused by the shield above the muffler that I'm going to try and reinforce tonight and hopefully that solves the problem.

Check the brake dust shields, too. One or more may have gotten bent.

What do I do with them if they have? They are rusted so bad and falling apart.... Here is a video clip best I could do. I can't get it to upload. But I have beat and felt everything under the truck to see what it could be and I am stumped.

Bend them out so they don't contact the rotor or replace them.

What causes a popping noise when shifting into reverse or drive from reverse? This is now what I am mainly hearing. Could it be from the u joints? Or tanny?

A metal on metal clank is usually sign of a worn u-joint. A muffled thud would be a normal sound when changing gears, IMO.

It is in fact a u joint and is being replaced with a moog u joint tomorrow. Thank you for all of your help! I'm hoping to get some videos uploaded of the u joint play and noise.
