I have a '06 Trailblazer LS with the 4.1(?)L engine. Yesterday I had the spare tire down and just checking the condition of the frame. There is a black plastic canister, about the size of a small shoebox above where the spare tire fits. It used to be supported by, and maybe attached to, a horizontal steel plate bolted to the frame. That plate is now mostly rotted away and it now is supported only by the spare tire. I'm going to check at the stealership to see if that plate is replaceable, having that canister bouncing around cannot be a good thing.

The canister has several tubular lines going to, or around (and out of sight) the fuel tank.

What is that canister for? Part of some elaborate vapor recover system?

Yeah, it's the evap system vapor canister. Basically a charcoal filter. You might be as well off with a couple zip ties securing it but if you can score a new bracket cheaply what the heck. Sometimes odd parts that you'd assume the stealer would rape you on end up being cheap.
