That particular part is in the headliner so I was unable to test so I am going to spend the $30 on parts and put in an aftermarket I hate to but even if the antenna doesnt work at least I will have a working cd player again.

you could always get a cowl mount antenna and use that instead

I tried several different ways and yes sometimes it was touching and other times it wasn't I was experimenting.

If the fly swatter antenna didn't change your reception problem then I would suspect the head unit and change it next.

Problem is, that type of antenna is expecting some power from the head unit to activate it.

An aftermarket head unit probably won't work with it. But test it first and then add the cowl mount (as advised above) or windshield mounted antenna if needed.

OK something new that I just noticed is that when I plug my phone charger into the auxilary 12v I get more static and can not get any radio stations but if I move it to the cigerette lighter its fine I am scratching my head here I havent put any money yet because I decided to go with an oem replacement radio to forgo the wiring harness issues of an aftermarket. But does this mean a bad ground maybe or something else?
