There are only a handful of Movies that have ever gotten to me emotionally, each and every time I watch them. The Most Memorable of these is the Final Scene from the 1939 B&W Movie… “Gunga Din” with Sam Jaffee, Victor Mclaglen, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr, and Cary Grant:

From Rudyard Kipling’s Poem “Gunga Din”

So I’ll meet him later on,
at the place where he has gone,
Where its ALWAYS ‘Double Drill and NO CANTEEN…’
He’ll be squatting on the Coals…
Giving Drinks to Poor Damned Souls
And I’ll get a Swig in Hell from Gunga Din…

Yes.. Din, Din, Din...
You Lazarushian Leathered Gung Din...
Though I Belted You… and Flayed You,
By the Living God that Made You,
You’re a Better Man than I am… Gunga Din…”

...and so here as the Eulogy to Gunga Din in the Movie...

But more recently, that same feeling overtook me completely by surprise while experiencing the dreadful, contemplative silence of riding along side @Mooseman as a Passenger (immersed in this video) on The Last Drive he made with his Trailblazer EXT...and recorded this Sad Event for All Time:

FWIW,,, I’ve tried to follow the style of “Gunga Din" here in an honest attempt to be reverent and write something “In Memory of a Lost Chevrolet” for @Mooseman. Sooner or Later ...We will ALL have to take THIS Same Drive:

So I’ll Miss her… Now She’s Gone,
I won’t see her later on,
She’ll be Crushed and Squashed
and Dropped in some Ravine.

“Get a NEW One…” Some will say,
“These Things Always Rust Away.”
But I Never will forget this Grand Machine.

I’ll remember Her this way,
As She felt upon that Day
I first drove Her off the Car Lot, Years Ago
I’ll remember Her in time, in every seasons clime
For She’d carried me in Sun and Rain and Snow.

To some, She had No “Guts”,
Just a Mass of Bolts and Nuts,
With a smattering of Bits of Glass and Rubber.
But for those of us who know,
Chevrolet’s The Way To Go.
So forgive me, if I have to Pause and Blubber.

Yes, For Her I’m Shedding Tears,
‘Cause I’ll miss Her... Shifting Gears,
To take me Down each Highway All Day Long.
And for Those who Understand,
They'll Remember... She was Grand.
For When you Own a Chevrolet...
You can’t Go Wrong.

Only had her for about 6 years, but it was the first engine project swap I did with my sons. It was a hot sweaty July and we lost weight doing it. I think this is what led them down to their career choices. Oldest went to learn and graduated to be an Aviation Tech however with everything that happened, he is now working as a HydroVac excavator and loving it. The youngest, he studied and became a heavy equipment technician and loving that.

The best memory though is when we drove it down to Washington DC one summer, camping in Virginia and driving through Gettysburg. Although we did do other trips, that one was the most memorable.

Ah memories
