The GMT360/370 was designed and intended to have a hose with a check-valve in that location.
Somebody decided that leaving out the check-valve (at least in some applications) was "good enough" and saved money.
There's no sense in replacing that hose with one that does not have the check valve. The check valve makes fuel fills easier and less aggravating.
Note the "notch" cut into the hose at the fuel tank end (near the clamp)
The hose is "stepped" or "tapered" so the fuel tank end is larger ID than the fill-pipe end.
And the whole reason we know the vehicle was originally intended to have the check-valve is that the hose is notched (even the hoses that don't have the check valve)
and the gas tank has a matching protrusion, so that the hose can only be installed one way--such that the check valve (if used) is in the proper position to work right.
