I was going to put this in "What came in your mail today" thread, but figured a search would turn this up for anyone in the hunt.

I haven't installed it yet, but my Pure Power alternator from Tuscon Alternator & Starter arrived today.

All new parts, including the case. I've had my eye on this for awhile now and also considered the Mechman but for the 4.2L, Mechman uses a smaller pulley on the 4.2L and limits RPM to 5K. This particular alternator uses the stock size pulley.

I had a good conversation with Tuscon A & S and this unit will provide 250A and 190A at idle.

Reason for the upgrade now is on occasion at higher RPM I can see the alternator is not shutting down, but I'm getting an occasional flicker or dimming, the 2-wire connector is good. Given the age of this alternator I'm going to upgrade now.

Also I might add some stereo goodies down the road, but also use a receiver-mount winch on occasion. For the price of a new unit at a local parts store, this wasn't far off and they are completely hand-built. Bearing feel is excellent when rotating pulley.

This requires a wire upgrade and is avail from the manufacturer.

I already have a big wire upgrade, will likely add a fuse to this install.

(Description shows 2004-2005 but is also for 2002-2005.)

Will update when installed.

With the potential for adding in Upgraded Stereo Equipment... Will you also be needing a Support Kit like THIS one as well?

Oops...See you have that covered...

This looks like a custom case since it seems to have way more cooling. Funny thing though is that for my 07, they show a different casing (looks like for the V8).

Just wondering if the extra $80 for that extra 10A compared to the 240A unit is worth it?

Going by the description, it seems the 240A and 250A are quite different and might be worth the added cost if you are going to have higher loads on occasion.

The 250A is a 6-phase design and uses twelve 70A diodes, the 240A is a 3-phase. I would venture a guess the 250A is a dual 3-phase setup but we never discussed the difference between the two models, also speaks of the SKF bearings.

They did have the model year incorrect for my listing, I would give them a call and see if the 250A is for the 4.2L and the 5.3L is the one with more options on amperage.

Does the 06-07 & 08-09 use a different signal wire connection than the 02-05?

Edit to add: @Mooseman , safe bet the 250A is likely the only option for the 4.2L.

The 06+ use the SARVC so some of the charging controls were changed. Probably why the 250A isn't available for them.

@Mooseman I have a buddy with an 08 I'm helping him with, so I called TA&S to inquire about his and asked about the 07.

They said the RVC started in 08 with a 2-pin oval connector......I don't know the actual specs, also includes late 07 models.

They said the part number for the one for yours is an old number and they are going to change that on their site. They also said the 250A is avail for the 07.
