so i have been looking for a mid-sized suv 4x4. and though word of mouth NOT craig'slist... i know can you believe it  ..... a good friend of mine had a neighbor selling her suv. since my wifes car is about to kick the can...
we spoke about a few days and i got an awesome deal on the car:
2002
GMC Envoy SLE
4x4
109k
all maintenance done at dealership just recently serviced and oil changed.
2,500.oo

Story doesn't end here,
i had told her that i was into classic cars in one of our conversations, so she thought it would be nice to include, for no extra charge, a.....

1964 AMC Rambler Classic Typhoon

so with the same envoy she sold me. i went to dmv then went to local parts store. picked up tune up kit/ oil filter/ oil/ inline gas filter/ starter fuild.... ... went home picked up my dolly then went back to her house and picked up this beauty!

IMG_7077.jpg

1964
AMC
Rambler Classic
Typhoon
98k
running and driving

charging old batt up.
IMG_7076.jpg

IMG_7079.jpg

while that was happening i gave it a tune up and changed oil.
IMG_7081.jpg

IMG_7080.jpg

after all those years sitting... DARN thing started right up!
IMG_7082-Copy.jpg

so as i was driving it up.... i forgot... NO BRAKES!!!!
IMG_7085.jpg

IMG_7083.jpg

with help from its original jack and original spear rim i was able to jack front of car high enough to then move the tuck forward a little
IMG_7084.jpg

Ahhh much better.
IMG_7086.jpg

and one last shot before it got dark

IMG_7087.jpg

heres a little background (in a nut shell).

The two-door hardtop Typhoon is spacious. The black interior has bucket seats and plenty of room in the back. The only color it came in was “solar yellow” with a black top — a sport variety of Rambler’s Classic 770.

It was a commemorative model for American Motors, and the company only produced 2,520 Typhoons in 1964 — the lone year it was made.

The main differences between the Classic 770 and the Typhoon were the color, the script nameplate on the Typhoon and its unique grille and black accents. It also highlighted what was then AMC’s new short-stroke, inline 6-cylinder engine that put out 145 horsepower.

Ah, an engine compartment with room to work. What a concept. And what's that round thing with all the wires by the oil filter (only kidding, just haven't seen one in a while).

The lights inside are burnt out! You can replace the whole thing or if you want open that one up and throw some LED's in there

You get tools to help remove the tires if you ever get a flat. No jack!

me no have anything! nor a spare! so i am going to have to start from scratch... plus i think those little jacks are dinky anyway.. i like old timer ones that cracked the vehicle up about 6 ft :rotfl: but thanks for the info on the things that are supposed to be there... if i do ever get a flat i wont be able to do anything since all that was taken out...

im planning on making my own roof rack so i will include a holder for a hi-jack and tire iron. so not to worried about the little one. but its always nice to have original equipment with your cars....

i dont have the owners manual either... JEEZ!

Wow!!! Now heres the real question, for that price, was this a salvage title?

Also I think there are quite a few people on here that removed there roof racks, you can try the classifieds and see how much they charge for them! I am looking to remove mine in the next month or two

no title is good. i am going to have to buy a one timer on carfax... but heres the thing with that... its only if you report it will it go on.. if this was a hit and the PO fixed it him/her self then it wont be on there.... so not 100%

ya but not the original roof racks.. i was talking more like the "safari roof racks" like a basket with lights mounted on them and a nice hi-jack and shovel attached. (always liked the "off road/ recovery" look) last 2 i built so i will make one for my envoy. :wootwoot:

hey guys heres a question... (havent looked into it yet.) anyone know off the top of there heads whats my gearing in my rear and is it posi?

Most of the trim inside of the truck can be super glued back on, however if the truck is a prior I would suggest getting your frame looked at. I looked at an 04 Envoy that was a prior salvage and she was a bit shook up. The inside trim was coming off the body and no matter what was done it just would not go back into place, lots of wind noise on the driver side even without the slightest breeze. The rear passenger seat belt was torn or cut from the accident, and this man claimed all that was done or "hurt" was the rear driver side door.

I liked the truck as it was very decently priced, less than 100k miles and newer (04)...but it wasn't what I was looking for options wise, and I was concerned it had more issues then what the guy was telling me it had. I just couldn't see putting my children in that truck...so we walked away from it. We ended up truck shopping for a good month or two and I finally found Phantom....and I feel so much better knowing that I walked from the first one.

Now i'm not saying this is your scenario, but just beware. There is a law that is supposed to keep sellers from holding damage information back from buyers....but they do it anyways and find loopholes to get around most legal actions. I knew the first 'Voy I looked at had way more issues then they claimed...and with 6 children I couldn't take the risk.

Other than that congrats on your rides, they both look really nice!

Only your glove box sticker can tell you unless you run a functional test. G80 is the locker, and gear ratios are GU6 = 3.42, GT4 = 3.73 & GT5 = 4.10

going outside now to look at glovebox... and does this include the front as well?

There were a few vehicles built with different gear ratios on the front and rear differentials as an engineering experiment. Sadly, the engineers forgot an important rule of drivetrain design.

I answered you on the other site (ORTB) you asked this on. No need to ask both places. It's mostly the same volunteers. But for the benefit of non-offroaders who don't go there: The G80 RPO code for the locker is separate from the gear ratio RPO code. If you don't have it, it's an open diff.
which rear end?
7.5
7.625
8.2
8.2B or P Axle
8.2
8.5
8.652
8.5 "O" Axle
8.875 Truck

8.8 "C" Axle
SWB I6? None of the above. 8.0"

now heres my thing... do you think she should have told me something about this when she was telling me the "history" of the car? or even upon purchase?

I would get some kind of paperwork that the truck was used for this and if you ever get pulled over and K-9 unit alerts to any residue, you can explain it with written proof rather than sitting in jail and hoping they believe your story.

I bought and sold a car. The girl I sold it to was at high school and her car was selected for a random drug search. The dog alerted and the some weed residue was found in the hatch area. Her dad tried to blame it on me, but I know for a fact I never had anything in there, but the guy I bought it from....Well it would not surprise me.

:iagree: I would get something that notes that and also let the insurance company know so that they can have record of it also!! That way your in the clear and not in a jail cell!!
