I just picked up a 'new' (cough) 2008 Sierra 2500HD.
Been going through it all top to bottom as I tend to do... when I was ripping the dash apart, I noticed that the foam on the 'vent side' of the dash was all trashed. So, instead of heating/cooling the inside of the dash, I went around and replaced all the foam.
Took me a while to find just the right stuff, but after that it was like a 2 minute per vent job. Just pick off the old stuff, then clean it up with some ~60 grit to get the old crap off, then roll out a SMALL amount of foam and firmly press it in place. Suggest starting on the side facing you, so you can make a nice clean butt joint when you come around.
Anyhow, here's the foam I found that's almost a perfect fit to OE. And it's the open cell polyurethane, so it's ultra squishy.
Bonus, it's about $6 for 17 FEET (!). So enough to do all your and your 4 buddies vents.
