Hey guys i dont talk much on here but have been around this and trailvoy for awhile. Little bit about my truck is z71 rear springs, procomp rear shocks, front bilstein hd and moog hd springs. Mark mc 3 inch suspension lift, qck disconnect links, pcm tune, pifk cold air intake, and some other little things. Im running 265/75 16 yokohama at tires.

But now for my problem. I was driving going up hill and i heard a pop under the drivers side. Immediately the engine reved and i wasnt going anywhere. After getting towed home i still dont have any transmission function. The engine still idles a little above 5 and the rpm revs when i try to accelerate. No matter what gear or reverse its the same. I dont think there is anything wrong with the tranny but i suspect something with a link between the engine and tranny. I just got a clean bill of health by a mechanic so im not sure whats wrong. There is no grinding or any movement whatsoever. No matter what gear im in the car moves as if in neutral. The tranny was flushed 20k miles ago and like i said everything was said to be in good working order. I havnt got the chance to look at it in depth but wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be.

Before this happened the engine reved while driving and almost shut off once while taking off from a stop. Several times while on the highway the engine would rev up then slow down as if in cruise control cruising at 60 mph. Also there was a slight vibration in the wheel i thought was from a ujoint but the mechanic looked it over and blamed the goodyear duratracs. I got new tires but still have the slight vibration and now the transmission issue. I live in the city and dont drive much so it sits for weeks at a time sometimes.

Thanks, george

There are either 3 or 4 bolts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel. Take off the inspection cover under the bell housing and make sure they're all 4 still in there, and that you can't rotate the torque converter with your hand while the engine stays in place.

With school and work i havnt been able to update this but it was fixed last weekend. The transmission was destroyed. Clutches, gears, everything. I had it serviced 20k miles ago but as the transmission guy said make sure its by a transmission specialist. The biggest thing i noticed before it broke was that while crusing at 60 my rpms would fluctuate. I thought it was the torque converter, but with 105k miles it wasnt likely. I had to get the transmission replaced with a rebuilt and i had the solinoids changed for good measure. Not many complaints with the replacement except that it hesistates to switch from 1st to 2nd. I have to go back for a quality check next week so ill talk to him then.

To recap. Its not enough to get your tranny serviced, make sure its from a transmission place and if you suspect anything is wrong get it checked. I dont drive much because i live in the city so i left it and it cost be in the end.
