Who has removed the pinion flange from their front diff?

I've got a bad seal in there but the manual says I need a J08614-01 special holding tool to remove the pinion to get at the seal. It also says I need a J33782 to install the new seal,

Now, the J33782 is easy to find on eBay and cheap enough that I'll grab one, no problem. but the 8614 tool is hundreds and I'm a little adverse to spending that much on a tool I may only use once.

Can anyone who has done this job without the special tool give me some tips? I've got lots of generic pullers, harmonic balancer pullers etc can I use them?

When I did mine I just use the impact to remove the nut,. Then a flat bar with 3 holes drilled in it and a ling 1/2" bolt nut combo. The bolt through center hole with nut on end,. Then use two side holes to thread in yoke strap bolts and rotate 1/2" bolt and nut to extract yoke. I used a prybar to hold yoke still when tightening nut back down.
