Anyone know why the front caliper guide pins are different?

One is notched and has a rubber sleeve.

Also, which one goes on top? (Couldn't find a definite answer or diagram)

I don't think that is the correct picture of our pins for the front calipers... Then again I have the XL version and I have greased them recently where they do not look like that.

Edit: Just checked RockAuto for my year and yeah, mine are different. Hopefully someone who has seen those pins can help.

Hmm, maybe after a certain year?

That's what my pins look like. Caliper hardware kit comes with the rubber sleeve for the notched portion, so they must be right for my year.

GM played with those pins with the plastic/rubber dampers for noise reduction. I think it goes on the lower pin usually.

I have always noticed for other GM vehicles like my dads Tahoe, moms Impala and my sisters old Buick that usually the bottom bolt has the rubber part. I can't say what it is for but like sparky suggested, I think it is for a dampening so the caliper doesn't rattle.

Those pins don't look quite right unless they changed them in later years. I have an 04 and the pin itself has a hex head on it and then the rubber dust shield goes around that.

I just replaced my front pins on my 04' envoy 113" wheel base and my pins looked different for sure. Both pins were solid like the top pin in your picture, same as the the old stock ones I pulled out. No notched pin in hardware set I got from autozone.
