Merc racing has been doing 1650 on pump for 6 years now. And they have that n/a 7.0l making 750 hp which I find significantly more impressive than boosting it...

That is pretty impressive what Mercury has done with an IC engine. From what I'm seeing the 1650hp requires 112 octane and is also boosted.

I forgot they're dual cal now. It'll run 1350 on pump though which is still insane. 91 pump to boot, not even 93 which is pretty common on the water.

Was the Genesis for these engines the ZR1 engine that Lotus engineered and Mercury built for the early 90's Vette ?

Kind of. Merc took what they learned from the LT-5 and made some serious modifications to it. Their engineers they have building these are some of the sharpest to ever build an engine. They did some serious tweaking to the architecture though. There isn't a lot in common but the blood line is there.

Sounds badass too
