Drivers door module and memory seats

My memory seats work intermittently and always have since we have had the truck. I was searching to buy a new drivers door module after receiving advice that it may be the reason for our problem. But my husband say's that replacing the drivers door module is not needed, because the memory seats are on a different module completely separate from the DDM, and with the fact that all my other buttons(windows, heated seats) work, it pretty much shows that it's on a completely separate module compared to vehicles without memory seats.

I was wondering if this is true or not? I don't want to replace the DDM and still have the memory seat issue.

The DDM has all of the buttons connected to it for the Seat memory and the Seat heaters, the Driver Memory Module is below the Driver seat and is connected to the actual heaters, motors and position sensors. All signals from the buttons are encoded and transferred via the Data Line to the Memory Module and then decoded and acted on.

The Memory Seats option uses both Modules to function so it could be either depending on what the problem is. The DDM could be sending bad signals or the Memory Module could not be doing what it is directed.
Being intermittent adds another layer of complexity unfortunately.

Not sure how to troubleshoot without monitoring the Data Line to see if the DDM is sending proper signals or not.

Thank you! We ended up taking the area of the door apart to have a look around. We found the DDM, then there is a separate square module with it's wires connecting to the DDM itself. Upon inspection we noticed the connector and the connector to the DDM was extremely loose and wobbly. Once we established a more secure connection the memory seats began to function normally. We used some electrical tape to tape the connector to the DDM in place to limit movement, and also taped the wires on the separate module to also limit movement.

Our theory when inspecting the modules, wires and door is that there is a plastic piece or lip within the cavity, and when the door is pulled closed(door has some slight movement at the indoor handle) the lip rubs up against the connector on the DDM and reoccurring movement has wiggled the connection out just enough to disrupt electrical input/output signals. So we're hoping this temporarily fixes the problem. We will give it a few days and see if it begins to act up again.

If you can confirm the fix you should grab a pic or two of the connector.:cool:

Well so far so good. However it can work for a few days and then decide not to work, so I think seeing if it works for 4 days starting today will tell me whether or not it's going to hold up. I can take pictures of it and show you all the lovely tape job, and where that lip is in the inside of the handle. The connector sits right on the lip and with the door panel flexing and moving when pulled shut from the inside it seems to cause the lip to rub against the connector. I have to wait for it to stop raining first though.

*I'm going to double post to keep the pictures organized*

Picture 1. Red circle is around the "lip" that the memory seat connector sits on.

DDMlip.jpg

Picture 2. Red circle is the separate module for the memory seats. There are 4 wires directly in the module.
The green circle is the DDM(Drivers door module) there is a white connector(like the blue ones on the side) that plugs into the DDM from the separate memory seat module.

Hope this helps and it's not to confusing. I didn't want to remove the tape as it was a bit of a pain to position the moving connector in the right place, hold it in that place and add the tape. The connector was extremely loose while plugged into the DDM, my guess is that the lip rubs the connector when the door is closed from the inside causing it to lose it's connection. We will see how everything works 4 days from now, and then I can really say whether or not my issue was fixed.

Sure does. It's always nice to know (possible) fixes for stuff that I don't get to work on everyday, like memory seats. Hope it is the fix. And thanks!

Thanks! I hope so too, I'm tired of slamming my door all the time just to get the damn thing to work lol. And your very welcome! I usually take pics of everything that's done to the truck, but it took 4 hands to do.

It's been 3 days and so far so good! I have driven it over lots of potholes(construction in town), over railroad tracks at slow speeds and higher speeds(30 MPH) and BUMPY RR tracks at that too. Slammed the door a few times both from inside and outside the truck, punched the door handle where the memory seat buttons are, and they still work!!

I'd like to confirm the fix, but I don't want to speak to soon. I have put it through it's paces and it's held up without a single glitch(as I jinx myself lol)

I will confirm/bust it in 4 more days!

This is something I am definitely going to look into. The number 2 hasn't worked since we bought it and with me being a shorty it drives me crazy having to reset the seat every time I get in. Will put the man and boy on it next warm (warm enough lol) day.

Our envoy has the same exact problem. #1 works fine but we have to beat the door to get #2 to work properly. Ours seems to be a loose wire connection though as taping it down works temporarily. A new ddm probably won't do us any good as we are pretty sure its caused by rubbing from a broken clip, but we could be wrong. I'm more concerned about replacing the heated seat coil as I like toasty cheeks when its cold outside LOL.

haven't tried beating the door to see if there is a change but I do have a plan. If hubby doesn't get on it, then I'll switch keys and he can have fun adjusting every day lol :rotfl: Right now as soon as I press the fob to open the stupid seat moves from the position I had just put it in. Complete PITA if all I'm doing is popping into a store and right back out again.

There, I fixed your post. A well-whipped hubby (like me, for instance) would have given you his fob before you got this annoyed.

As a Facebook friend shared last week: "If a man says he's gonna do something, he's gonna do it. You don't have to keep REMINDING him every six months!"

I agree you should get the fob so it adjusts for you. I'm guessing he moves the seat back when he gets in? if thats the case and you have the easy exit seat then it can be programmed to put the seat back at key out so you can get out easy. If he gets in it's easy for him to adjust it from there. If you get in with the fob the seat moves to your position. Works for everyone .

Just think of the driver's seat position like a toilet seat, and deal with it the same way. The guy ALWAYS must leave it in the position the woman prefers. If Mama falls in, ain't NOBODY gonna get any sleep that night.
