I was changing the oil when I noticed the passenger CV axle had grease all around it not on it, but all around it. I couldn't find anything wrong with the axle boot. The vehicle is driving fine ,but is this something I should worry about? Should I change the axle?Thank you!

Welcome to the Jungle, um errrr, I mean Nation!

You obviously didn't see any tears or cracks. They are weeping due to the factory clamps not holding tight enough. For the cost of replacements, wait several years for the failing effect to show. That is, unless you are hard-core off-road...

This just became evident for our TB, as well.

good luck!

do you think it leaked out of the end of the boot, or from someplace else?

is it spread all over or just a bit here and there?

True; if it is the boot, there will be a pretty focused splatter ring on the surfaces that surround the boot.

It just looks like it was slung around by the boot. The boot looked great. I couldn't find anything. When I reached in there, my hand got grease everywhere.

I just did both my axles two weeks ago due to the same thing happening.

I'm just gonna replace it.

You're talking about the entire axle, not the boot, I hope. I wasn't clear in my initial comment about replacing.

Rockauto.com $45 Cardone CV Axle

Good luck!

It wasn't all that bad. Came out prett easy. Replaced the sway bar links while in there. Thanks for the help. Oh, used the duralast gold replacement, and it has a 36mm nut on it to.

The same CV shaft is used by all years, all models, all six marques, and both driver's and passenger's sides, of vehicles that have CV shafts.
