Ok so my boot popped off, I regreased and resealed it and it popped off. So I tried it again and really tightened the sucker down and it popped off again!

So I've decided to just buy an aftermarket cv axle and replace both sides! Was just wondering which company to go with and which site prob has the best prices, any idea to those of you who have already done such?

Thanks!

a lot of the guys I see go with cardone. I picked up a duralast reman a week ago and the boot split. replacing it tomorrow. It seems to be mostly hit and miss.

Cardone NEW shaft from Rockauto (like the same price as a reman, why bother with a reman).

Ordered 2 from rockauto, the reman's were more expensive than the new ones!

Since only the passenger side popped off I'll replace that side and keep the other one as a spare! Or do you think I should just go ahead and replace both sides?

If the weather or your garage has acceptable conditions, do both. You don't want to have to change it on ITS schedule, which may not be at a convenient time or place.

I replaced both of mine, and kept the old ones as spares. Cleaned out the boots and joints, repacked with grease, and hose clamped them back together, it may not hold up for a long distance drive, but it will get me back to civilization if one of the cardones fails.

Sounds like a good idea, though my boot kept popping back off, though the drivers side is still good... Sorta... Lol

Thats what happened with my passenger side about 30 miles after I bought the truck, but, it did have 167k on it. So far, about 1-1.5k on the cardones and no problems, there is a very noticeable differences with the neoprene boots vs the stock ones.

Noticeable as in what way? Durability?

Thickness, durability, the stock ones use some pretty cheap crappy boots, the cardones have some quality neoprene boots, that look to be more durable, and less prone to cracking or splitting. I haven't had mine on long enough to put any major wear on them. But others here, and from the old site haven't had any problems with the boots or the joints.

Well that's good to here! And yeah, I just came over here from trailvoy!

Well, Welcome to the site. Hows the snow treating you today? Just noticed your from CO. If you need some help with changing those, I can lend a hand.

Aye, I just moved from co, missing it already! Came out east here as I've finally decided to go back to school(unfortunately) though after I graduate I plan on going back into the army though this time around as an officer!

Pulled the duralast axle out and swapped in the new cardone today. Took some pictures of them side by side and they look identical. They may not be. But they have the same date markings on the axle, the boots feel and look to be the same material. The machine marks on the stubs look identical. I dunno. I just hope the cardone last more than a week lol

I've had my Cardone for several months now. No problems with it. I know others have used them without issue as well.

I just had my driver's side replaced. I used the NAPA brand, a remanufactured, and got my core deposit back, made it pretty affordable. I had my housing assembly and passenger side done several months ago and my driver's side just split - no fixing it. Found a local shop to do it for a great price and had him put in new gear oil while he was in there - used Royal Purple.

I was going to try to do the work myself, but when I realized I didn't have much of the proper tools to pull this off comfortably, I just had someone else do it. SOmeday I will be more of a DIYer. I do a lot of the other smaller things myself.

Cheers!
