After almost 10 years of the same audio equipment, it was time to upgrade. At first, I was just going to clean everything up in the truck to keep me busy during the quarantine. I had surgery around the time my buddy installed my system all those years ago, so i couldnt help him, plus things have changed drastically from 10 years ago in the audio world. I wanted to clean up the wire harnesses and under the hood as well. Then came time for new amps, wires, and speakers. Some know my old setup from the meets back in the OG days. I was running AutoTek door components and 2 American Bass DX 12's in an aero ported box tuned to 38Hz with a class a/b 2 channel 800W Kenwood amp to each of the subs. Was good enough to hit a 143.7 at the local spl show so life was good. Plus i rip it all out anyway when I go to the track so i didnt want anything too crazy...

Fast forward to today, all my research. utilizing new technology, and installing equipment and she's all done and dialed in. MY GAWD is all i can say! It hurts sitting inside the truck now lol. I've never had my shirt move from the pressure\air inside the truck but now she's flexin pretty good haha. New set up is all Rockford speakers, Precision Power Black Ice amps running through a Pionner AVH4300 double din head unit. I've had Rockford components in the doors for a few years now and had the subs for about a year. Subs are 2 Rockford Fostgate P3 12's (600W RMS with dual 2 ohm voice coils) wired to 2 ohms at the amp. Monoblock Class D sub amp is the Precision Power Black Ice 7000.1D capable of 3500 Watts @ .5 ohms. I didn't want go that low. So I kept it at 2 ohms for 1500W RMS power. The 4 channel is a class A/B Precision Power Black Ice 1000.4 that is 100W RMS at 4 ohms per channel. Rockforrd components are only 80W RMS at 4 ohms. I made a new amp rack. Ripped out all the old RCA's, remote turn ons, and 4awg wire and upgraded to OFC 0AWG with running "speedwire" for the new 4 channel. Took me about a year to piece this all together and learn a few arears i was fuzzy in and i must say, i am EXTREMELY HAPPY with the outcome. Now it's time for some new spl numbers!

Nice build. :2thumbsup: sorry but I have to ask how the hell are you running that with out a cap or 2nd battery? On my brother-in-laws SS with the single 12" 3ohm anniversary jl w7 the lights dim and the battery runs down to 10.??volts with long low bass bursts. With the 5 farad stinger cap it was good and kept the battery from not going down below 12.6. We now have a 10 farad stinger cap and the battery is staying in the high side of 14v which is exactly what I wanted.

Nice work on the new setup. I'd love to have a custom box, that would be a better fit for behind my seats. Give me a bit more usable cargo room to work with, without having to (re)move it when I've got larger items to put back there.

That pic reminds me I need to repaint the under hood plastic pieces on my truck too. Maybe when I get ready to start trying my HVLP stuff, those will be my learning pieces. :undecided:

Thx bud, My honest answer... I never thought about it 🤣. I didnt think a little setup like that would need something but with how hard it is hitting now... ehhhh it might be time to entertain the idea lol. On the old setup, sometimes my Voltage would dip to around 11.4. I had HID's then so the flicker was minimal since they have their own power supplies in the ballasts and I just switched to LED's last week so we will see how bad they dim. The only thing not new under my hood is the power steering pump, and the alt. When i did the cam swap, the shop mentioned to me that my alt was sounding pretty bad under the stethoscope and I listened myself. Shes grinding pretty good on those bearings lol. So I'll be getting a new one this year too, maybe even a higher output one, not sure yet. I havent played with this new setup enough yet to see how bad the Voltage drops are, but I'm sure I'm dipping into the 10's too...

Nice work on the new setup. I'd love to have a custom box, that would be a better fit for behind my seats.

Thx bro! I actually lost some cargo space because i had to push the box backward towards the liftgate to accommodate the new amp rack. Still enough room for my chair at shows and groceries, but that's about it lol.

Ive tossed around the idea of going back to stock engine pieces, or losing some of them all together (bettery cover, etc... ) but the jury is still out on that. The intake box and washer tank is gone since i have the FWI so all that is left that is painted is the engine cover, fuse block cover, and the battery cover. Time will tell...

But i had the led's laying around and was like "you know what, i need to light this b**** up!" :rotfl:

I see your Precision Power and raise you twin ARC audio XDi 650.1 bridged running 1300 watts at 2ohm powering twin 10" jl W3v3 4ohm wired in parallel for 2ohm load in a slot ported box tuned to 32Hz.

Just kidding your set up will blow my set up away..
My 200 amp stinger breaker.
20200524_193335.jpg
OFC power wire wrapped in fluorescent pink tech flex and heat shrink. I still have to replace the wire after the breaker as it is still cca I'm just waiting on some fittings. This has been my slow and steady build I've been working on when I've got nothing better to do.

BTW the brother-in-laws SS will be getting a bigger alternator in the near future. This is his set up.

Slot port tuned to 28Hz. Now this set up will give a good run for your $$$$.

Car audio builds are fun but probably as expensive as some engine mods.

Nice setups!

Bro, I'd trade it all to have JL stuff! JL is soooooo expensive though lol. Loved JL ever since i was introduced to the audio world. My brother runs 2 JL W0 12's in his towing truck 3500 Silverado and they sound amazing for only being entry level subs. Buddy of mine has the JL W3's and all i can say is just wow haha...

It's definitely an expensive hobby. If i had to guess on mine... Somewhere between $2-$3 grand if not more all in. The shop i bought the amps from has the SMD amp dyno so we threw the 7000.1D on it and she rocked on the dyno. True wattage on every rated level. Very impressive since most companies just flat out lie about the amps numbers. My buddy who is the lead installer at the shop keeps trying to convince me to drop her down to .5 ohms and throw the 3500+ watts at the subs... :uhno:... I'm still way too iffy on that  but i guess it's there if i need it or maybe get curious on the meters

:hijack: Does Glenn still have his Envoy XL? Does he still mod it, if he does?

Unfortunately, no he does not. Sold it about 2-3 years ago. During his last few moments with it, he turned it into an SPL vehicle. 2 18's, fiberglassed doors, etc... ended up just selling it all. He now drives a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with some tasteful mods. Nothing crazy like the XL. Single 10" in the back, custom amp rack, of course all LED lighting, and full exhaust.

Yea, he pretty much settled down in life and hit cruise control. Got married last year. Oldest boy is in the Coast Guard. His other boy works with him at his shop. His youngest son will be 18 and his daughter is a freshman or sophomore in high school (cant remember which lol). So they no longer had a use for XL and got the smaller Outlander Sport. Guess while he was working on one he really took a liking to it. When he came home and showed all of us we were like :weird: dude a Mitsubishi? He loves it so that's all that matters
