Coincidental blower motor resistor fault?

Hello everyone,

So, about two months ago I had to replace my blower motor resistor pack (I replaced it with a delco) due to the fact that the blower would fail to operate on speed setting number four. All other speeds worked as normal. After replacement the system worked as normal. Yesterday, I discovered that I am suddenly experiencing the same problem as before, in that my blower fails to operate on setting four (all others including five still work). Could it just be a coincidence that this resistor pack failed exactly as the one before it did or is there another cause (possibly a bower failure? i.e. the blower is placing too much demand upon the resistor pack?) I have not done any work on my 360 lately that could explain this malfunction, nor are there any suspicious noises emanating from the HVAC system.

Thanks in advance,

-Andrew

Unplug your blower resistor and look at the connector for signs of overheating. The blower resistor connector is a common problem for these trucks. If the pins in the connector look blackened you need a connector. Unfortunatly if it got to hot you may also need and new resistor again as well.

What resistor pack did you replace it with? Same OEM type or an aftermarket? I know my Dorman replacement was a different design.

Check the connectors and stuff as mentioned also.

Aftermarket part from AutoZone, it looked exactly the same as the original. I will try and find some time this week to check the connectors. Although, I may just end up replacing the resistor pack once again in the hopes that it will fix the issue in a more permanent fashion.

Sorry it took me so long to actually take a look at the system. I pulled out the resistor pack and all looks well. However, as some of you have stated the wiring harness is in fact melted (terminal c). Looks like ill be replacing that very soon. thanks everyone!!

Ran into the same problem. On our vehicles you need to replace the connector at the same time or else either of them could fail again. But the issue is more than likely just the connector.

There is a TSB for this which GM states that both the resistor pack and connector must be replaced at the same time.

Part is cheap on Amazon. It's a Delphi part.

Thanks CaptainXL for the link to the connector, saved me about thirty dollars!
