Cluster mileage

Is it true that id you install a new cluster in the gmt and never ever take ur truck to skippylube (jiffylube) that there is no way to find out the real mileage ? Don't worry im not a scamster...my 03 has 51k Mi. I ask this cause i read it somewhere people do that to i guess lie or something??

The ODO is saved within the cluster. You cannot find the miles on a vehicle anywhere other than in the cluster. When you change it your mileage stays in the original cluster unless you take the cluster to a place that can flash your original mileage into the replacement cluster. Also the VIN is stored in the cluster so if the VIN doesn't match, you can just about guarantee the mileage is off.

Interesting. Is there a way to read the cluster via obd2 port?

With a Tech 2 yes....
