I did this for my Chrome Hood Trim piece and thought i would share the how to. If you try this be safe and ise common sense

Removing Chome off ABS Plastic to paint:

You got chrome plastic you want to repaint? here you go!!

Recipe to strip chrome plating off of ABS plastic:

ingredients:
muriatic acid
hydrogen peroxide

mixture:
-in a plastic (pvc or abs) tub, mix roughly 32oz acid to 8oz peroxide.
-adjust to tub size...you do the math (or use 4:1)
-forget about using water to dilute the acid, it will just take longer...but if you do, add acid to water not water to acid.

Duration:
-several days ...in a warm but well ventilated area.
-ensure the part remains completely submerged
-time it will take Differs based on plating thickness/quality.

once stripped, wash the part in soapy water and let dry

paint as desired

==================

Its a game of patience.

This particular hood trim piece took about three weeks to complete with just letting the muriatic acid/hydrogen peroxide mix do all the work.

Could have been quicker about it by sanding and chipping loose pieces, but i chose to let the chemicals do all the work. strips is down completely to the base plastic so it can be painted

I hope this helps anyone looking to donthe same as a painted or even black hood trim piece is not available
