I searched the forum but cannot find instructions on how to remove the charcoal canister on an '03 TB. i got the lines off and finally got it pryed from the clips but for the life of me i cannot get it pulled out between the frame and the transfer case motor. It is plugged with dirt on the vent side. i tried to blow compressed air through it but can't get anything to blow out of the vent hole. It is plugged tight. I can blow through the tube into the tank and the vent tube so i know those are not plugged. can anyone help me figure out how to get the canister removed from it's pocket up in the frame? Thanks!

This is the same situation I encountered on my 2002 Trailblazer (Sorry...Mine is a Two Wheel Drive) So I don’t know whether or not there are other implications or complications involved with the 4X4 Trans-Axle:

Also… These Videos will show you how to Blow Out the Used Charcoal Canister… and then use Water to flush out the remaining Dirt.

When I first removed mine, it was a slight pita. I was able to pry it loose from the mount once I loosened the clips. Once the clips are loose you can pry it out from the frame then backwards. It takes some creativity to twist it out but it should come out.

Removal from the car was rather easy, the white plastic clips are not fun when you're on your back, though.
Was able to use the air compressor from the truck with the silver air chuck in place to clear the dirt as seen in the second video. You'll be putting the chuck on as tight as you can, pushing it so the gold metal is flush with the plastic, plug the Purge with one finger, plug the Air with another finger, and watch the pressure build. I was able to get it up to about 10 to 15psi, release finger off the Air side and dirt come shooting out. Just try not to breathe too much of it in, but if you're reading this in 2020-2021, you most likely are wearing a mask over your mouth and nose anyhow.
Was able to do this enough times that I could finally hear the charcoal moving around inside! Before it seemed to be one solid chunk in there. Can blast air out of Purge and Air from the Fuel line, so I think I can count call this charcoal canister "functional" going forward.
Thanks for those videos and writeup!

I got it all unhooked and out of the clips but i cannot no matter what figure out how to get it removed out of that tight spot. I got it manipulated around so that i could put compressed air into the fuel tank vent hole on the canister. I did that and covered the purge hole but Nothing and i mean Nothing came out of the 3rd vent hole. it is plugged tight. I will probably have to save my pennies and get a new canister and pay our dealership to replace it for me.

I see the charcoal canister is available new at a variety of locations, but is there really a difference inbetween SWB and LWB for this part?

On the SWB 4x4, the only way to access the canister is to lower the spare tire completely and push it out of the way.

Did they change locations at some point?

My SWB 4x4 canister is under the drivers floor along the frame.

I'm guessing the return and returnless is different.
