I don't have an answer but I would just switch it if you got it to save the headache of a possible return trip and I would already be on my way. The sticker could make someone want to "dig further". Even ask them with your stock setup what you can get away with?

I'm using ducttape on the magical hole on the oem airintake pipe cause I gutted the airfilter top/cover.

Darn typos

Why did that prevent passing?

How/What do they do for the test? When MN had emissions they looked to see you had a cat and stuck a probdidn't our tailpipe.

Because Cali has a rage-erection for emissions standards. I believe if you have a MIL, you fail. Pulling the battery would turn the MIL off, but people could easily cheat the system that way.

Funny enough, I just read an article today where a global wind model shows that up to 25% of Cali's smog is actually wafting over from China. I see all that outsourcing is paying off for us Americans.

Lol. Yea I killed something stored in the ECU when I disconnected the battery

There is a counter for a certain number of "drive cycles" after a battery reset, to make sure if a valid MIL code is waiting to be set, that it does before an emissions test. Precisely as you say - to prevent the easy cheating. If you tune your PCM to eliminate certain codes from CAUSING a master MIL alarm, this hack still works. Until they check the PCM table checksum like the dealers can do now to deny warranty claims on tuned PCM vehicles.

Torque management is there to save GM money, not for any other purpose.

Yeah that's the killer with most warranties - they only guarantee the absolute STOCK will last X-time or Y-miles or Z-cycles. ANY change ditches some or all of your warranty, sometimes even portions completely unaffected by the modification.

Most likely failed due to too many " Emission Readiness Indicators" NOT on. Resetting the PCM (disconnect battery) sets all emission ready indicators to off and says the DTC emission testing is disabled, or has not been completed for that specific emission system. Depending on state rules, EG: Georgia will pass with up to two ready indicators NOT set. Search on "GM Drive Cycle" for info and see how to set the ready indicators on more quickly.

Except for this little issue with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

So it's official I'm getting rid of the k&n 77 intake pipe kit. My truck runs smooth on cold starts with all the oem intake where's the k&n kit made my truck run like sh!t on cold starts.

That's odd - I have the 77's plastic twin, the 57 and I have zero cold start issues - even at the recent subzero temps.

I dunno. Microsoft had no problem voiding warranties on 360s that had the case removed. Removing the case isn't enough to truly access the internals - there's also a heat shield held on with torx screws. But popping that tab threw your warranty out the window.

That and there's plenty of loopholes in the M-M Act. If you use a replacement aftermarket part to perform the same function as the factory-equipped, you can't be denied. But if that part causes a failure, your warranty may not cover it.

Custom intakes and stuff? The manufacturer can come back and say "We designed this to handle X amount of power, they've increased that and thus damaged the system." ECU flashes that aren't manufacturer/dealer-supplied can void your warranty, since you've brought the engine out of the intended performance model. Altering suspension may alter wear on other parts, and those won't be covered.

I do believe I was being too strict on saying they'll just toss the whole warranty out. However, they can and will find ways (and have about infinite more lawyers than the average Joe) to point to some modification if it can be linked in some way to a failure.

Mines metal and i used the aem prodry filter and threw the k&n filter in the garbage.

Put the intake tube back on and yup idle drops bounces almost to a stall and back up again. So I'm selling the k&n intake pipe going back to OE but will continue to use the aem prodry and cap the magical hole on the top of the intake pipe.
