Blower motor resistor connector and pins

It seems that a blower motor resistor I purchased off of eBay cooked the connector that attaches to it. #4 speed no longer works and the connector is melted and charred. I have it patched so it works but I would rather replace the connector and wire pins. Problem is I cannot locat the parts. I went through the connector lists on GM Parts East but couldn't identify either. I'm hoping someone can help!

The connector fails so often on GM vehicles that almost every aftermarket parts store keeps them in stock. Just go in and ask them. Mail order sources like Amazon and Ebay have plenty if you want to wait for delivery. Absolutely no need to buy the GM parts that cost a minimum of 3X what they should. Run a search for "gm blower motor harness" on Ebay to see what I mean. Rockauto should also have them, but I didn't run a search for that.

As always Roadie, you are the man with the answers. Much appreciated! And I did not know there was a fuse for each speed of the fan. That's a new one on me. It seems it is always something with my Envoy. I need to replace the idler pully for the fourth time (squeeking), need to rebuild the front calipers but have no clue how. eBay has new ones for $45 each so I may go that route. And I have a rotational scraping noise from the front end. Might be a bad hub or CV joint but I can't figure it out (sigh) so it's always something. With 130k now I should expect such things. But again, thanks for the quick replies!

There is no plethora of fuses like that. Where did you read it? There is a different fuse for speed 5 only, to provide some redundancy for safety (defrosting the windshield) in case you blow one (1-4 is separate from 5)

Got it. I was referring to CaptainXL's post below your initial, "Make sure to disconnect battery before putting in new one. I blew the #5 speed fuse not doing this."

Miron. I highly recommend you get a Chilton manual and study the applicable wiring diagram if you decide to tackle anything electrical wiring on the vehicle. You will be connecting wires going directly to the hvac head unit so its kind of important you know which wire connects to what. One false move and you could be out $100 or more.

To be of much help its better if separate issues have their own thread. You don't have to rebuild them. Just get a packed caliper.

Sorry Captain. A new thread it is. And yes, I have a Chiltons and am pretty good at reading and understanding schematics. I've done some wiring already for the HIDs and temp sensor for rearview. I would assume (based on the pics I've seen on eBay) that the wire colors should corrospond to what is installed. If not, it should be a pretty simple task of lining up the old wire/connector to the new. Just a pain crawling under the passenger side dash! Not very comfortable! Lol.

Yep. Just match up the wire positions. Didnt mean to sound condesending but i try to make it a point to be clear why i know what i know so as not to come across as incredible.

Thanks for opening up new threads. You will get faster help that way. And again just trying to help. Good luck.

Curious, why didnt you buy the Delphi one I showed you for $11?

What is the url for the eBay listing? I want to see it.

Trying to help you out from getting a crap chinese harness for more money.

Some stuff on ebay is a rip off. Buy from a usa vendor if possible. And a lot of stuff on Amazon.com is cheaper that eBay.

Ahh... good point my good Captain! The point of manufacture did not occur to me. I was more interested obtaining the item quickly. Only $2 more than the item you indicated. Here's the eBay URL; Buick Chevy GMC Olds Pontiac Blower Motor Resistor Plug Connector 7 Wire Pigtail | eBay

I did not see anything in the post that referenced where it was made. It comes with crimp connectors so I thought it was a good deal. I will definately heed you advice in the future!

If you have the tools and experience, the connections are MUCH more robust if you solder and heat shrink them. Crimp connection butt splices are OK for low power audio, but the high current that fries the resistor pack pins can also overheat the butt splices. Just a suggestion.

Definitely have the tools and I feel I have the experience! I will try to do the smart thing and put old and new side-by-side and cut/connect/solder one wire at a time to eliminate ANY possibility of a mistake. Although if there is a way, I'll find it 9 out of 10 times! :hissyfit:

If the new connector doesn't say "Delphi" on it then its a foreign knockoff. Could potentially be a fire hazard IMHO. GM specifically updated the design to prevent such a scenario.
