Well, that depends on whether the cheaper one really has ELM327 v2.1. There are a few things done better but then again those may be irrelevant if what you're after is just retrieving DTCs. https://www.elmelectronics.com/products/ics/obd/#ELM327

The other one is probably v1.4, v1.5 never existed and can only be seen as a version number in these unofficial clones.

That being said they both should be perfectly sufficient for basic DTC retrieval and standard features available in apps like Torque or Dash Command.

I also have a guy selling the first model locally so I think it would be better to test it out before purchasing. Also the pricing is quite reasonable as the above two are costing me around 70 SR with shipping etc. Whereas he is selling for 50 SR. Next week hopefully. Now to find a good app on my Windows Mobile

I have had both of those. The V1.5 does work on my 2002 but may have issues with later models using CANBUS. I can't test that as I lost it. The little blue one I currently have and it works fine on my 2006 so I would go with that one to be sure for compatibility.

Apart from Torque, also have a look and try Car Gauge Pro. It reads all codes including ABS, airbags, BCM, etc.
