Any tips for 02 sensor removal?

Trying to replace my upstream sensor. I've sprayed the hell out of it with Penetrating oil...tapped it with a hammer...run the engine to try and warm it up a little...thing does not budge. After warming the engine up I tried it once last time and thought it was moving, but it was just starting to round out the edges. Can anyone recommend anything else to try? This 10 minute sensor swap has taken me over an hour and is really starting to get to me.

Get out a propane torch and hit with lots of heat, and a long breaker bar.

I have also heated then melt a crayon/candle on it to get the wax to follow the threads.

PB Blaster is also your second best friend next to heat.

Good Luck, Last one I did took a better part of an afternoon, the bung was right on the side of the cat.

Thanks. I sprayed it with PB blaster a couple times. Let it sit while I was eating dinner. I'll try the wax idea tomorrow.

I ended up borrowing the neighbor's massive pipe wrench and even then it took a lot of effort to get it out.

I have a huge pipe wrench in the garage too.

My other thought was to just cut the cable and try a normal 6 point socket...thinking about buying an impact ratchet. this is the 2nd time in the last month one would have been handy.

I tried the socket idea. Didn't work, but I didn't have a long enough breaker bar at the time either.

I ended up pulling the heatshield and getting at it from the wheelwell/bottom with a 12" crescent wrench. Didnt have an O2 sensor wrench that would fit in there.

Great, I get to do this again when my header gets here. Awesome. Probably just pull it out and do it on the ground.

It might be worth the 50-60 bucks to buy a new one and not have to fight it again.

I ended up pulling the heat shield and using a 7-8 inch pipe wrench from Harbor Freight. Stripped the hell out of it but it came out with a cheater bar. The O2 sensor was even totally rounded off. Gotta love how them pipe wrenches work.

But do try to snap off the O2 part and try and use a 1/2 inch breaker bar with a suitable socket. Will save you the time of having to take off the heatshield.

I have had this 4-way angle wrench for about 20 years, don't think I could be without it. Works especially well in close quarters, if you need more leverage just use another box-end on the jaw.

Wanted to add, this is all I have ever used on any O2 sensor I have replaced.

If you guys ever ordered from Kano Labs who sells Kreen (it's like Seafoam and smells like a very sweet paint thinner) they throw in a free AeroKroil. It's for frozen nuts a bolts and penetrating.

I soaked my O2 with it twice before hand and rented the O2 socket from AutoZone. I started to wrench at the sensor with a breaker bar and with not much effort at all, it screwed off. I didn't run the engine to warm it up or anything. When I got the sensor in my hand, I could see how the oil traveled up the threads.

Soaking it the key and have a long breaker bar. If you remove your air intake, you will have more room.
