Airbag light on after repair made

So I just replaced the rack and pinion on my 04 TB. Old one was leaking like a sonofab****. Anywho, after the replacement, I saw that the airbag light on the instrument cluster came on. I think the steering wheel got spun a few times while I had the linkage disconnected. So my question is, how much damage got done (if any) and what repairs do I now need to make to the airbag?

You might have snapped the ribbon cable that's wound up inside the clock spring. If you are good with a soldering iron, and very small copper traces, you can try opening it up, see where the ribbon was ripped out, and perform some surgery to reconnect those breaks.

Otherwise, you may need to source a new (to you) clock spring for a drop in replacement.

Edit: Here's a thread from one of our former members who was brave enough to take on the job, and document the steps required.
