Adding seats with heaters

I am changing out my old cloth seats for used leather ones. It looks like the leather ones were heated. There is a power box attached to the seats. If those were for the heated seats is there a way to make them functional? I didnt have heated seats before. Maybe I could make a custom switch since? Is this possible or a waste of time and effort?

You can apply 12V to the heater elements and they'll make your butt toasty. What your vehicle won't have is the driver door module capability of commanding them remotely, and I've read that GM also locks out that option in the BCM programming so you would have to pay a dealer to enable the function even if you added all possible intelligent modules and wiring. But you can certainly run power to the heating elements manually. Just have to use a relay or other cleverness to make sure they go off with the ignition or else they will be the source of frustration when (not if) a heater gets left on in the wintertime and it drains your battery.

Thats what I was thinking. Maybe a button on the side or something.

So I was able to buy used DDM for both doors that was able to be powered with what I currently have. I made the mistake for buying a new DDM for the driver and the dealer said $95 for a flash, so I then sold that off and bought me some used ones. From their my windows, locks etc worked. I want to run the wires from the Doors to the bottom of the seats, here are my pics.

This next pic is the common wires I see at both sides of the seats.

So my question is, what pins do I need to connect into the DDM on both sides? A1 - B19... What color wires relate to which part of the wire harness, and which harness to I place the pins into?
I just want to connect them and if I need to flash the PCM I will go that route, but for now, I just want to get the wires connected from both seats to the DDM on both doors. I am a migrating Trailvoy guy as well, I just joined today and it feels good to be around you all.

Welcome!

The way it's architected is there is a DDM in the DRIVER'S door, a PDM in the Passenger's door, and (if the BCM is flashed to support the option) a Seat Memory Module under the driver's seat that takes commands from the door modules on the data bus to turn on the heating elements. Do you have power seats with Driver 1/2 memory control on the DDM? Or just seat movement switches on the bottom side of the seats?

If you don't have the memory module, no wiring you can do from the doors will give you the seat heater function.

All you can do is download the schematics from the thread that offers Manuals For Download or ask for advice how to add manual switches from 12V power to the heater elements. And since the 12V power under the seats doesn't get switched with the ignition, you'll really need a relay to turn off the heater power when the ignition is off.

Just wait. I've read that Ford is considering piloting a pay-for-option program. As in the vehicle comes with all the options built in, and you can choose to activate them by paying a certain price for a particular option, or even pay to "rent" an option like having heated seats just during the winter instead of having them available year-round.

Evil concept to "lease" an option on a vehicle you bought. Would boycott Ford if they rolled that out...... Oh, wait..... I already do.

Yep, that's what's in the talks right now though, obviously it remains to be seen. It's sickening because they dangle all the goods right in front of your face, but I guess the upside is if you can't afford a loaded car right now, maybe you could a couple years down the road and can go get all the goods turned on or whatever they do. I think the "rent-a-feature" may be speculation and not fact, I'll have to confirm that. Sounds to me like it's just waiting for some intrepid hackers to get a luxury car at economy car price off the lot :rotfl:

Okay I think I'm done hijacking this thread. Maybe. I'll decide later. :raspberry:

ok, i have an envoy with cloth seats but full power driver and passenger, i found a really good conditioned envoy in the junkyard with great leather seats and i see the heater function on the door... here is my question

ill grab all the leather seats and the two door controls, also as i was reading up above, is there a module under the seat i should get also? or what would i need to grab from the donor car to try to make this work? im going to get the leather seats anyways, but would be nice to get the heaters to work....

thanks

There is a module under the seat, but it is attached to the seat underneath, not the floor, so you would get it when you take the seats out in the junkyard. Also, there is a difference in the modules depending on your model year (IIRC) as later models only had a module under the drivers seat to run the heat, but earlier models had one under the passenger seat as well. This could affect how the seats work in your vehicle if you have a different year of vehicle. I think the change was in '03 or '04, but I am working from memory.

In summary, check the year of the junker and compare to the year of your vehicle.

I have an 02 and got the seats out of the 02. May have to mess with it later. It's raining and 40. . Seriously what does it take to be a weatherman????

That would require the BCM to be flashed to support that feature, as with any "new" features you add yourself.
My ride had manual seats to begin with, so I didn't bother even trying an "OE" installation with memory (and a nice hefty reflashing charge from the stealership). I bypassed the memory module in my wiring and the seat works just fine with no memory.
If you haven't downloaded the entire group manuals yet, I have the Driver's Memory Seat schematic posted there: http://gmtnation.com/forums/threads/how-to-convert-power-memory-seats-to-power-seats.15314/

I have been looking that up. My question, so I can take it to get it flashed to just add the memory seat thing? Can I also try to get the bcm I got the seats out of, if the other options are the same?
