Can anyone please clarify what the actual towing capacity of the TB is? I have a 04 TB LS with the 3.42 ratio axle, and I have seen different numbers on the towing weight...the manual says 5100lbs and the Chevrolet information "rebuild kit" package from the Chevy site say 6100lbs. Thanks.

Look on the hitch. It depends on axle ratio and whether a weight Dist hitch is used. I think mine says 6100 with a WD hitch and 4800 without for a 4.2 liter with 3.73 rear.

The numbers on the hitch will only tell you what the hitch itself is rated for, regardless of what it installed on. What is important to note on the hitch is that there are 2 ratings, one w/o a WDH, and for use with a WDH. The manual is correct for your truck, mine is an EXT otherwise same specs as yours, 4WD, 3:42 gears, and 4.2. My tow rating is 4900# due to the extra weight of being an EXT. I'm not sure what site you are getting the larger number from, but that high tow rating is for a SWB, V8 with the lower gear set (4:11 perhaps?).

Keep in mind that the tow rating is only part of what you need to know. That rating assumes only a driver and nothing else in the truck. Add the weight of your family, dog, any gear, etc that you carry in the truck and subtract that from the tow rating. So if your tow rating is 5100# and you carry 500# of gear and people in the TB, your actual tow rating is now 4600#.

Another important number is GCVWR which should be on the sticker in the door. That's the combined total weight of everything, truck, people, gear, and trailer with all the options. Never, under any circumstances should you ever exceed this number.

IIRC the older TBs were only 5100 max with the 3.42 Mine says 5700 max with 3.42. I went through a lot of stuff before finding information on this stuff due to the equipment and trailers that I haul.

If you are anywhere near the upper end of the rating "without the Weight Distribution Hitch" then do yourself a favor- get a weight distribution kit! You will be amazed at the difference they make and how much easier it is to tow stuff. Also trailer brakes are a must- Instal an electronic brake controller - pretty easy to do...and not very expensive.

What do you plan on towing?
Last year I towed a 3500lb Camper from PEI down to Portland Main then up through New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York State, through the Green Mountains, White Mountains and Adarondaks....Then went to Algonquin Park in Ontario and then went back into the states at the Ogdensburg then across the top of the states past Lake Champlain and worked across Maine back to New Brunswick at St Stephen NB and back to PEI. 3 weeks total time....An 03 TB LS with about 255000kms on it. It worked awesome, Pulled along like a dream even through all the mountain chains. The trailblazers are tougher than you think!

Good Luck

Now that was helpful! Lol
I think it's "Trailvoy Appreciation Day" where some of us try to respond as if your question was being answered back there by the current goofballs and uninformed ones. You usually get no response, but if you do, it's almost always wrong. :rotfl:
