Okay so a buddy just had a crate motor(5.7 350) installed in his truck. It was in rough shape the heads were completely re-done new, distributor and knock sensor. it has electronic controlled advanced. we can not get the thing to hold timing correct. We unplug the wire under the dash that bypasses the computer and get it set at zero degrees, we then re-connect the wire and the timing jumps to 30 degrees advanced while it should be like 8 degrees, it sounds great at idle but any throttle adjustment makes it spit and sputter/dies. we are sick of throwing parts at it but we think we need to replace the computer and/or but a MSD on it and bypass it completely. he would prefer a less costly fix as he is already close to 3 grand into it so far. Has anyone seen this issue before?
