I have a 2003 Trailblazer LT . Today I noticed an ozone smell but didnt think anything about it. Got home and noticed my dayrunning lights or headlights wouldnt turn off. Tried switching the automatic DLR off but nothing. So looked under the hood at the fuses and noticed the #46 headlamp relay was burned and melted to the board. Its a 4 prong and the single prong in front of the other three is left in the fuse board. I have been having trouble for years of the headlamp relay going out all the time (replaced it twice in a year). Just went outside and pulled out the prong that was still in the slot and tried the cooling fan relay to see if the spot worked and it does not. So I would gather I need to change the fuse box. So can someone help me with what the part number is for the fuse box, how difficult is this do ourselves and what in the hell could have caused this??

Thanks everyone!!!

Welcome!

Only corrosion or oxidation or a relay going bad can cause that sort of damage. I've dug into my truck a lot, but never had to change the fuse block. But while the old site (now dead) compnine.com was offering exploded parts diagrams, I snagged this one.

I usually obtain GM-specific parts like this from the discount GM dealer GmPartsShop.com - General Motors Parts - OEM GM Parts – Chevy Silverado Parts - Factory GM Parts

In this case I don't find it. Try a dealer or junkyard.

Yeah I was thinking that I would have to go to a junkyard. I looked every where online and couldnt find the part anywhere. Luckily the whole fuse box is ok, just that slot is bad. All the relays are good and the other fuses are working. I do have my high beams to flash people with (pulling it forward to flash the lights). So I could wedge something in there to keep them on if I really needed to use headlights till I can get a part. With Christmas, I am sure I will have to wait till Wednesday. Always happens at the worse times. Thanks for the reply!!!!
