I recently was stuck in a parking spot during a snow storm, i put the truck in 4WD to get out and spun my way out. When the front drivers tire hit traction i heard a clunk and no more 4WD. Went through this (http://gmtnation.com/f79/4wd-not-working-step-inside-107/) and so far both motors engage so i spun the front tire and it spins freely but the driveshaft doesnt turn. Now when i turn the wheel i hear a sort of clicking in the front, i can only assume this is somethign inside the diff? If this is the case i guess i need a new diff or a rebuild. How involved in this? Is there anything i should check before i delve into this venture? Thanks in advance

Sounds a lot more likely to be the splined disconnect than the diff. How many miles, and has your transfer case fluid been changed religiously every 50K miles? The high energy involved in stopping a spinning tire could also break a bearing support in pre-2005 transfer cases.

Not related to your current issue, but do you know the OTHER 100K maintenance (all fluids, filters, and plugs) was performed, or ignored because the previous seller knew they were going to dump it? The consensus is that you change ALL fluids and do all current maintenance items when you buy a vehicle with unprovable (not just seller's claims) maintenance records.

Thank you. So this spline thing, is it inside the diff? I guess i should just get some sort of rebuild kit and do it all?
