My Envoy still running great, just a little piston slap before warming up. In my research on piston slap I noticed GM had a recall on "sleeve" failures for certain V.I.N. numbers/production runs.

I'm curious if my 2002 might be affected. Does anyone know where this V.I.N. info can be found? thx...

I knw for sure it was the early model 02's. Likely 01 build. My June 02 wasn't affected.

Those affected all failed early so none would still be alive today unless it's an ultra low miles barn find.

These were the breakpoint VINs I have seen. Mine fell in that range but as already stated it would have already failed long ago.

Mine does fall in that V.I.N. range. It is nice to know that when they failed they failed early so that's a good sign. Mine has plenty of miles past that. I was just curious. Thanks all for the input.

Although the problem of dropping sleeves has been eliminated since that initial run, if it does happen, I doubt that the block is reusable after the carnage of the sleeve making contact with the crank

So if it hasn't happened by 190k miles, I'm probably ok? Has anyone heard of the sleeves causing troubles this far into the life of the engine?
