16s dont work if you have LWB or V8 engine.

I have the Trailblazer (not LWB, not extended) LS with the 4.2 I6 . I have measured the brake calibers and I feel very confident that a 16in rim will fit.

As long as you haven't done the brake rotor upgrade they should fit just fine. I use 16s for the winter with factory rims from an 05.

Check your spare it's probably on a 16

My spare is also a 17 but it is a steel rim 17. I think the offset on the spare is a less than the 4 alloy rims.

So what I had stated...a couple months ago. But without my actual experience of running a 16 on SWB with the 4.2.

There were a few spares used over the life of the platform. I do not think any were actually aluminum from the factory and they only came in 16 or 17.

My 02 has the original lightweight aluminum spare - came that way when new. I drove around for a few weeks with two of those spares on the rear wheels and it was OK. I don't know why they went to the trouble and expense of using a special rim that weighs just a few pounds less.

I remember someone using these spares for an offroad build...are these aluminum?

You saved me a lot of frustration, something I completely failed to consider.

I drove my EXT on the beach this fall on a family trip and have been planning changes to improve performance in the future (I feel I was lucky to not get stuck). I was considering smaller wheel & taller and more pliable sidewall as well as offsetting to run a bigger diameter but wasn't thinking about the caliper clearance at all. This would have been very frustrating.
