I have an 05 ext and the ac is not real cold--seems I can hear a squeek every so often which I assume is the compressor either engaging or disengaging also only blows simi cold air on the pass side vents and warm air on the driver side--never had a problem before this year--any ideas where to start--any imput greatly appreciated

thanks

it could be that you are low on Freon. I would get one of those cans with pressure gauge on it and add some Freon. that is what I did and worked. but also mine was kicking on and then would kick off for awhile before it would kick back on and found out the low pressure switch was bad.

Warmer on drivers side than on the passenger side is a classic symptom that the R134A is low. This is assuming there are no actuator issues (you can hear the actuator cycle from full hot to full cold)

I had an extended '05. I also had the problem your having. Mine was a leak in the lines going to the rear evaporator. This is a common problem with the extended trucks, my AC guy cut the line(s) and fixed with a line repair kit. I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't bad.

It more than likely leaks out in the winter. You could try some sealer and see if that works. It's only down about a bottle.

I put in a small can of the R134a a few weeks ago but I'm not sure very much went in--not sure the compressor was engaged it wasn't blowing any cold air and when i took the gauage off the can extra came out---should i try another can again? what is the squeeking noise i hear?? every couple mins i hear quick short "squeek" only when the air is on from the enigine bay area

The squeak is most likely the serpentine belt slipping a tiny bit on the pulley when the AC compressor clutch engages. You can see this easily by looking at the clutch.

My consistent advice is that most DIY'ers need to consult a professional with the expensive gauges and vacuum equipment when they need AC recharging. It's easy to overfill the system when you're guessing, and overfilling has its downsides. Leaks usually (but not always) mean that a hose or line or connection has to be troubleshot and fixed before refilling the system, which needs to be done by WEIGHT, not pressure.

This may seem simple, but have you tried setting the temperature to the lowest setting? My Envoy has 3 settings: Fairly cold (60°), A little less cold (61° - 89°), and warm (90°). The recirculate hasn't worked for a few years.

You may just have some faulty sensors like I probably do and it's free to test.
