01 Silverado K1500 4x4

Finally time to update the ole 89 that I bought new to a 01. What can you tell me about this truck? All I know is 01 4x4 regular cab short bed. Has 4.8L v8 I never heard of till now.

Auto trans. What trans they have in them? One in my 89 k1500 was just rebuilt 30K ago is why I ask.

Anything good or bad I need to watch for etc.

These newer trucks seem to rust worse then the 88-98 versions IMO after shopping for 00-05 replacement truck I noticed.

Parents' neighbors have a 2000 1500 4x4 with that same engine. They have something like 260k or something ridiculous on that truck. Nothing major has gone wrong with it aside from when their son tried to do a burnout and did a high RPM neutral drop that blew the spider gears out of the rear end lol. It has the 4L60E on it.

Solid truck and solid motor. We put 250K on a 5.3 ext cab silvy of the 2000 edition. Now dad has a cherry sub 50K mile 6.0 2500 ext cab.

They do rust. Keep it clean and por15 or chassis saver the frame and wheelwells.

I wanted to use something on the frame etc as I am going to use it for my plow truck also for 700' drive. My 89 the frame gave up the ghost. So I would like to coat this 01 that has surface rust on frame already.

Dad has a 01 with no rust and ext cab with super low miles. Wish mine had the posi rear his has.

POR15 is a paint that car restorers use on the frame and suspension parts. Eastwood is a vendor.
I would think that you can find it on e-bay.
