What did you do to your GMT today?

I had a valve cover gasket leak on the driver's side by #7 when I bought my truck. It finally got to the point where both sides were leaking and I had the "automatic oil change" feature. Just add oil - no draining necessary! The Silverado never ceases to amaze me how easy and cheap it is to...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I know for a fact I did not replace the accumulator, but I'm not totally sure if I did the orifice tube or not. I was broke a few years ago so I'd assume just the compressor. It's blown cold ever since. I also did a coolant change at the same time since that lower rad hose needed to come off to...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I replaced the bearing after it failed (huge waste of time) and the clutch would still slip so I tried the same thing which ended in the same result. I even tried installing a different clutch and it still slipped. I just had to bite the bullet and replace the whole compressor. A/Cs been cool...

    What are you doing today?

TrailBlazer was overdue for an inspection, so I ran it in and it failed for a "brake fluid leak". Ok, whatever, it's probably just residual fluid/spray from where I replaced the front calipers and got a little messy while bleeding. I'll clean it and come back. Nope! The ENTIRE passenger's wheel...

What the Lockdown in Paris looks like

Sadly, a lot of clinical staff are not working at my facilities either. I personally witnessed a whole unit getting told not to come back to work tomorrow. I can't even imagine how that feels. We are starving for patients and furloughing our staff, but the media will only talk about NYC. Or...

What the Lockdown in Paris looks like

This is what social distancing looks like in West Virginia. I don't see a single soul! (Yeah, it's exactly what it looked like before). Jokes aside, I work at a level II trauma center in a nearby city and I might as well just stay home to get the same amount of socialization. The whole medical...

NEED HELP Changing Power Steering Lines

I too thought I was going to go crazy with the cup seal. Mine looked like there was still one in there too. I picked at it for about a half hour before I finally said eff it and buttoned it up. I've had no issues since I did it in August. On the driver's side, I didn't remove anything except...

    I can't believe I'm sharing this...

As an amateur mechanic, I have many many instances of "learning from my mistakes" when working on vehicles... And YES!!! The most infuriating "I need sleep" goof is when you're fuming mad, storming around looking for a missing tool or part, only to discover it was in your hand or right in front...

NEED HELP Changing seats in 04 ext

If you have the connectors with all wires present, you're probably good to go if your donor seats are from the same year and match the features your vehicle has (no seat heat and no memory). But most likely, you will need to add or change some wiring. My rig ('03 LS manual seats) had the...

What did you do to your GMT today?

The WORST is going from the "old-style" to "new-style" turn signal stalk where pulling the high beams back too far activates them instead of just flashing them. I feel like an absolute doof in my '00 when I go to flash someone and the high beams just stay on blinding them. I got a couple...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I hope so. The few wrecked examples I saw were missing any trace of it. Cool, I'll see if this is also applicable on the Silverado. I'm kicking myself for not ripping open the harness further to see where they went...

What did you do to your GMT today?

The TrailBlazer celebrated its 17th birthday last month. (It needs another ignition switch soon). I hit the pick-a-part for some goodies for the Silverado - connectors to splice in so I can hook up my 2nd gen towing mirrors, and an electrochromic mirror with temp and compass ($10)! It's doing...

[How to] Switched AHL Delete 1999-2002 Silverado

How to install a switch to cancel the Automatic Headlight (AHL) feature on some 1999-2002 fullsize GMTs that GM decided didn't need to ever be able to turn off their headlights. Note: Your DRLs will still come on while in gear. Parts: 1x Switch 1x 1.5 kohm resistor Difficulty: Easy Time...

What did you do to your GMT today?

P0171 & P0172 on the Silverado. Time for Intake Gaskets. :worried: (Graphs show idle, then revved up and held at 2k, yikes). Quite a lot of connectors and stuff to get out of the way to get that sum-b out. Out with the old, in with the new. No CEL anymore! Only took 4.5 hours including a...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I thought I had a leaking petcock on the Silverado (it happens as we get older). Turns out there was a hairline crack in the plastic of the radiator below the upper hose inlet. It was weeping a significant amount of coolant. This is apparently a common failure on these. A new radiator was in...

Intermittent metallic noise consistent with wheel speed

When I had an at-speed noise I couldn't solve, I started by jacking up the rear end and letting the engine idle in Drive while I walked around listening. It is almost impossible to tell where a mystery sound is coming from inside the vehicle. Just start by isolating whatever parts you (safely)...

    SUPPORT Signature BB Code Broken

Correct, that's exactly how I had it before I tried adding the second image. I copied that verbatim and tried it in my usual Chromium-based browser and now am getting the following error message. I never got this far before, so it does appear to now possibly be an account issue.

    SUPPORT Signature BB Code Broken

I would guess I last updated my signature in late Spring. It was fine until I tried to change it on Saturday, now I can't get the image(s) to work even with the verbatim signature I had before. The URL block works fine, however, I am noticing IMG and SPOILER both do not. Doesn't appear to be. I...

    SUPPORT Signature BB Code Broken

I updated my signature today attempting to add a second Fuelly badge, but I found once I click "Toggle BB Code", my code is completely stripped from the text box, leaving just the remaining text. If I just click "Save" after entering my code (IMG block nested inside a URL block), it treats it...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I replaced the belt tensioner on the Silverado. Very easy job. While looking around, I noticed a puddle forming on the driveway and a coolant leak presumably coming from the petcock that had leaked into the fan shroud, down into the skid plate. It's always something. Fix one thing, find two more...

Support Group/Thread For Mod Addiction or MA

My name is gpking, and I have the mod bug. The TrailBlazer is really where I want it to be all things considered. 5 years and about $1,500 in just frivolous (albeit some functional, all 110% cool) mods, I really have no strong desire to tear into or add anything anymore. I enjoy everything...

What did you do to your GMT today?

I stapled up the sagging bits of my headliner. Before / After Wait a minute... that doesn't look like a GMT360. Yup, that's right, I've added a GMT800 to the family.

What are you towing with yours ????

Similar results here towing 5k+ lbs today. TCC lock in 4th was a no-go. 4 was okay for flat road. 3 was required on any slight grade. 2 was required a time or two, but pulling a hill at 4k / 60mph was painful to watch on the fuel gauge. But hey, I got some golf carts and a counter top by...

    Air conditioner clutch shim removal

Did you remove the shim? When I tried that my clutch was effectively engaged at all times. It just slipped badly above 1500 rpm when "off" and made a horrendous burning smell. I'm probably the only one who has had that happen lol.

What did you do to your GMT today?

It took 7 hours, 6 beers, and, well, I lost track of my profanity, but the power steering lines are replaced! This was not nearly as bad as the trans lines in terms of the line fitment and connectors, the lines actually went in/out easy, but the location of some of the bolts was just ridiculous...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Ordered Power Steering lines. I'm going to try and tackle this job tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'm having flashbacks to when I did my trans lines by myself and about had an aneurysm from frustration at the "exact fit" design, and so-called "quick connects". Yikes, I hope these aren't as bad.

What did you do to your GMT today?

New passenger headlight and new sway bar bushings were on the agenda today. I found an (ultra rare) used, clean driver's side headlight for $10 last year, but could never find a clean passenger one. So I paid the $32 for a new headlight. Whatever. After over 16 years, the haze was baaaaaad...
