No Mess Engine Oil Filter Change

I learned how to bend my arm just right and spin it just fast enough to get it only down to my elbow and not beyond that. I considered the oily mess all over the chassis around there as a form of rustproofing. Looking back, it probably was the least rusty place on it too...

NEED HELP Air bag resistor value

Cruise is not connected to your clock spring since all the controls are on the turn stalk not the wheel itself. Something else is going on.

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Trying to work. Got poor sleep again (up too late last night with too much to do, then the infant wasn't exactly letting us sleep tremendously well). Dragging. Funny how normal noises seem super amplified when I'm tired...

NEED HELP Air bag resistor value

Why do you think there may be an issue with the clock spring? Cruise could simply be a flaking out brake light switch. I didn't have that happen on my Trailblazer, but it did on my Silverado and I had to kick the side of the brake pedal to get it working again until I replaced the switch.

NEED HELP Air bag resistor value

FWIW I found a used front sensor on ebay for 20 bucks. Maybe getting some cheap used parts may be an easier option than fidgeting with resistors and such (don't want to use the wrong one and make the vehicle think you hit something!)

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Got like 2 hours of sleep Monday night so I ended up taking Tuesday off work because I was not functional. I did find out that Dorman makes a replacement part for busted Honda 4 cylinder cable driven throttle bodies. Listed as only for early 2000s Accord but it is exactly the same on the...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Getting adjusted again to having a newborn in the house, and not having a solid night's sleep. I'm dragging pretty good today. I still have my brother-in-law's Element in the garage. Got the darn rear struts finished, but the thing decided to have its idle control valve crap out (likely just...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Finally had a little time to spend on my brother-in-law's Element (yeah, it is still sitting in my garage). I had to take the sawzall with metal blades to the lower rear strut bolt on the driver side. Burned 3 blades cutting that grade 10 bolt out, but i got it out. Of course, I couldn't just...

Bilstein B8 or BDS NX2 or Rough Country N3 for lifted TB?

I would tend to agree. IIRC (it has been many years now) the others work OK, however they don't have the lifespan of the Bilstein. So on average it comes down to spend it all now and do the work once, or spend half and do the work now, then spend the other half and do the work a second time later.

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Well back at work today after a Christmas break. Kid #3 is due any day now. Shifted the car seats around the van so we're all set. The bigger kids think their new seating arrangement is "cool" so that's good - sometimes change is met by heavy resistance! It went from -10 right before Christmas...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

It is a balmy 42 degrees here, and raining. But after midnight it is supposed to drop from about 40 to 0 in about 6 hrs and hit -4 by noon tomorrow, with -30 or lower wind chills. That's COLD. Reminds me a bit of winter 2012. At least my current place won't have ice on the interior walls!

What are you doing today? [Part II]

It still could be airflow. My friend's furnace would do something similar years ago, popping the cover would make it work, put the cover on, still work, then a few minutes later quit. Worked as long as the cover was off. There was a leaf sitting in the air intake pipe that we didn't know was...

Clutch or Bearing Noise? - Getting Bad

The sound in the middle of the video reminds me of when my alternator bearings went out. But the changing sound makes me think compressor. It doesn't sound like the when my compressor pulley bearing went bad, but then, it has been so many years I don't really remember it that well. Technically...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Glad we don't have to go anywhere. If we did, I'd be really missing the truck again. No remote start and no 4x4 with chunky tires makes me sad in frigid bad weather. The van is better overall in many ways for this stage of life right this moment, but I'm definitely dreaming of another truck...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

We rarely lose power around here but twice this year we lost it for a couple hours totally unexplained. I made sure we have some gas for the generator, no way I'm headed into a few days of single digits without being able to run the furnace. Not a huge potential for snow (so far they're saying...

    SOLVED! 4WD doesn't like cold?

No, not normal. My 02 would engage 4WD even when stupid cold out. I suspect it is a sign of something going/gone wrong. Hopefully just the encoder motor on the TC and not something sticking in the TC itself.

What are you doing today? [Part II]

We cleaned out part of the basement last night. I shoved a bunch of recyclables and donations in the back of the van, today we'll drop the stuff off. Ugh, it is amazing the crap you collect after only 3 years in a place. I need to readdress the DRL on the van. I rerouted the original DRL wiring...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Thanks for the offer, but I have access to the service manuals. It literally says "remove lower bolt." Basically, it comes down to a case of the bolt rusted to the bushing sleeve, and it needs cut off. Nothing is going to break it free at this point. I talked to a guy who is very familiar with...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

No go on the impact, couldn't get the clearance. Clearly they designed this rear suspension without that in mind. So, I torched the bolt for a bit, propped my feet against against the vehicle hub, stuck my long 18" ratchet on there, gave it a big heave, and CRACK! .... I busted my ratchet. 😑

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Likely the bolt is rusted to the strut bushing's sleeve. If I have to cut it off, replacement bolts are $15 each at the dealer, but the nut is welded onto the control arm and is smooth. I guess a common thing is to have to cut the bolt off and somehow grind the welds off the nut to get it all...

What are you doing today? [Part II]

Worked on my brother-in-law's 05 Element. I already replaced all discs, calipers, and pads. It needs struts, sway links, ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bushings. There are deep rust pockets in the rear struts, I'm surprised that they aren't leaking yet. Brakes went easy. Started on rear...

Trailblazer with 5.3 or go with the Tahoe for towing? Same general years...2002-2006

2006 was the computer change and when you could tune for gear/tire changes. 02-05 were stuck. I just dealt with my speedo being off by 10% when I put bigger tires on. (So really, my TB had a couple more k miles on it than the odometer read at its end. It said 215k but I think I had done the math...

Trailblazer with 5.3 or go with the Tahoe for towing? Same general years...2002-2006

GT5 will give you the best towing grunt, but will hurt your highway mpg the most when not towing. If my main concern was grunt, I'd go GT5. They're the hardest to find though I think. What year is your truck again? That can also play in. Earlier GMT360s can't be tuned for tire size, not sure...

Trailblazer with 5.3 or go with the Tahoe for towing? Same general years...2002-2006

I wouldn't worry too much about the AFM side of things if you get a newer one, just tune it out. That's what I did on my 5.3L Silverado and no real problems at 237k. I don't know about any oil ring seizure problems on the 5.3 or 4.2.

Did some cleaning out of old junk from the basement and garage. Since the truck is now gone, I really didn't need my never-finished retrofit parts. So in the junk bin went the torn apart, half chopped up headlight housings. I kept the practically brand new Mini H1 7.0 projectors, shrouds, bulbs...

    12V Pump

That is where (I think) the air ride suspension pump would go, for models so equipped. And I think it sucked for inflating tires. You're better off with your plug-in pump. Now does yours have a rear power socket? If so, convenient, assuming it works. Mine had a socket, never worked, fuse was...

GM recalls 340K big SUVs; daytime running lights can stay on

Except Hondas leave the DRL on when lows and highs are on. Weird. DRL is more an "accent" light I thought.
