Tips for at home rust repair?

Wow....thats a heck of an amazing job he did! My only worry is I'm not sure if I can do a similar job he did. My main concern is how much of the metal near the wheel arch itself is salvageable after the sanding process. I highlighted it below, but a big chunk of paint came off after the heavy...

Plus side to the fuse pull, no worries about the actuators killing themselves from the battery disconnect... :2thumbsup:

How-To: Safely enable & disable airbags

I wasn't sure where the best place to post this would be, so I'll put it in here. Saw May03LT (can't seem to tag him in the post?) uploaded a video with two different methods for enabling, and disabling the airbag to do work on the steering wheel and what not. Figured this could be useful to...

Tips for at home rust repair?

I was actually thinking about calling them not too long ago! The more challenging part, that I'm pretty limited on is cutting out the rocker and that wheel arch and welding it in and then painting that area/blending it all in.

Tips for at home rust repair?

Hey guys! I'm thinking of starting a project this summer involving my Avalanche. Like most I see on the road in the Chicago/NWI area, most of the 02-06 Avalanches are riddled with rust cancer on the wheel wells. About 4 years ago, my paint above the passenger side rear wheel well bubbled up and...

    Deadish Engine - Opinions

I thought with places like copart you need to have a business license, or know someone who is a broker to get access to bid on vehicles? When I went with a buddy to check out a rolled Yukon they wouldn't allow access unless that stuff was provided. He might be better off with like LKQ, or one...

2006 Envoy - coolant temp sensor question

199-206 is roughly the normal temp range for the I6 when warmed up. The coolant temp sensor is pretty cheap, no harm in replacing it if it makes you feel better. Like Xavierny mentioned, the gauges aren't accurate on these trucks. My temps hover within 199-209 when warmed up (5.3), but my gauge...

    Looking for an axle..

My mistake, I meant the others had the regular non g80 config. The 04 supposedly had the rear rebuilt and were told/given a print out saying it was a posi diff. Unless it was aftermarket, or they lied about it when the truck was purchased. 🤔

How to Change the Differential Fluid & Why it Should Be Done…

Watched him a few weeks ago when I was working on the Avalanche! Mostly for the "how-to" on the steering column bearing replacement, I do like how he gets to the point instead of "fluffing" the video with unnecessary information.

[RUMOR] Trailblazer coming back as a Trax

Thats just the Blazer, the "new" Trailblazers will be about the size of the Chevy Trax.

[RUMOR] Trailblazer coming back as a Trax

Yikes...if this is true. So if the Trax does indeed become a Trailblazer, then it's not far off if the Envoy returns and replaces the Terrain. http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/04/next-gen-chevrolet-trax-to-be-named-trailblazer/amp/

Wow...that looks like an almost clean break! Never seen that before

What did you do to your GMT today?

Did light work on the Avalanche, for the past few months I couldn't figure out why the passenger side had little wiper fluid pressure. Thought maybe there was a blockage, popped the hood and found the tubing leading up the wiper arm was ripped. Not sure how that happened, so I took some good ole...

    eBay Trailblazer Northface SWB

Aside from the scuffing and misc dents, I gotta admit that frame looks pretty clean. I would love to get one of these.

    Looking for an axle..

I second Mounces suggestion. When I did the sway bar bushings on the Envoy and Avalanche, they were able to go by my VIN to get the exact bushing size without crawling underneath to measure them.

    Looking for an axle..

Could be another GM thing? Never understood some of the base features they would include in one, but not the other. The diff/axle combos seem to be really scattered.

    Looking for an axle..

Not all of them, the 04 TB EXT (4.2) 4x4 we fixed up for a family friend has the 3.42/G86. When I had my accident that totaled the TB EXT, I looked at a few XL's/EXT and most came with the G86 and 3.42's...it was really hard to just find the 3.73's alone until I settled on getting my Denali.

    Weak shocks

I'm running Monroe Reflex's on my Avalanche, they aren't bad but I would prefer if they were a bit stiffer. I was going to go with the Bilstein HD's, but went with Monroe's when RockAuto had a sale on Monroe shocks. I think after the rebate kicked in, I only ended up paying the cost for 3 of the...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Got the Avalanche back earlier from having the front end inspected, everything checked out with a full bill of health. No play in the bushings, ball joints or hub assemblies. It does need an alignment, which I'll be getting to soon. Now I can focus on just replacing the radiator hoses, water...

2nd gear is intermittent and won't hold power occasionally

I couldn't find a complete trim level list, but it looks like the Rainer came standard with 3.73's (2WD or AWD) with 4.10's being optional. This site seems to contain the build options available at the time, seems like it had all the features the Denali came with prior to 05. If he wanted to...

Ready to just drive it till it dies...

If you have still have codes for the EVAP, it could be a bad gas cap or the purge valve/canister that sits near the gas tank. When you replaced the VVT did you use Dorman or AC Delco? The dorman ones aren't too reliable and the auto part store branded ones aren't much better either.

To buy or not to buy.. That is the question

If one of these were available near me a few years ago, I woulda snatched it up over the Avalanche. Everything I've come across with the 6.0 in this platform ALWAYS goes for 12k in my area...

2nd gear is intermittent and won't hold power occasionally

With the money being spent on buying all the fluid to flush it out properly, seems a bit more feasible to snag a junkyard pull. I see it this way, if the flush works, how long will it last? Perhaps the gunk and everything else in the tranny is what allows it to still have some functionality. I'm...

    Weak shocks

I ran the Excel G on my Ext TB when I still had it. Ride wise, it's a little bit stiffer then the stock ones. It wasn't as floaty but still soft. I'm running the KYB Gas-a-Just shocks right now in the rear, I wanna say they're the middle ground of the stock shocks and the Bilstein HDs. The ride...

    xm radio module location

The XM module should be attached to the lower kick panel, where the foot vent comes through. I think its two bolts that you remove and it should pop out/lower down. Mine was in that area when I tapped my Sirius module into the factory antenna. This thread shows the location, its a Saab but its...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Tried attempt #1 at replacing the lower steering column bearing. Failed to get it changed out, tried loosening the lower intermediate shaft to no avail. I get it to the point where its about to slip off but won't go any further, going to attempt again tomorrow or another day when it isn't...

What did you do to your GMT today?

@gpking I'm so glad Indiana doesn't have those safety inspections, hated seeing those stickers within my view while driving haha. Chicago ones are a bit smaller but a royal pain to get off. Finished doing the differentials on the Avalanche, all I need to do left underneath is swap out the...

Talk me out of doing something stupid...

Personally, I'd go with whatever seems to make more sense financially. The cost alone for the work it needs would be roughly part of a down payment. The only costly thing I really see is at 40k a year, you're already nearing the lifespan of what the tranny is capable of. Unless I'm wrong, but I...

What did you do to your GMT today?

Envoy - Nothing new. Did new hose clamps for the upper and lower radiator hoses. So far they seem to be holding, and not allowing coolant to leak through. Kept having the upper hose back off, but so far it seems to be staying in place. Avalanche - Kept having a slight miss at idle, enough to...
