Struggling Power Windows

It seems like all four of my power windows struggle and strain to roll up. It seems unlikely that I have 4 bad power window motors at once. Plus the motors "seem" to be good. It doesn't seem the the problem is the motor, it seems like the windows are too hard to roll up. Which got me wondering, maybe the real problem I'm having is actually just that the slides the windows move in need to be re-lubricated? What do you think?

My mechanic was talking about using WD40, but WD is a degreaser, wouldn't it be better to clean the slides and apply actual grease to them? Also I'm assuming I have to take all of the door panels off for this?

Check the track to see what is possibly binding and put silicone in there, not RTV. WD40 is a mild lubricant but it is a water displacement formula 40. You can use it to help clean the gunk out.

What i do to mine is clean the window channel felt stuff with a solvent, (denatured alcohol) and a paper towel. Then i spray a silicone lubricant all over it and down inside the window. Then i roll the window up and down several times, let the motors cool for a few minutes, spray it again, roll the windows up several more times, then clean the windows. Down side is that the windows will get a coating the silicone every time you roll them down for a few days. Just have to clean them again and again until the excess is gone.

A video i done on my maxima.

Before Lubricating.

After Lubricating

:goodpost: My front windows have this problem, when I roll them up with the engine not running. Might have to give this a try and see if that improves things. :undecided:

I agree with everyone here. I had to do this to my XL and my wife's expedition. The silicone spray do wonders. You will have the residual to clean for awhile, but the window performance increase is quite noticeable.
