Stereo going mono

So if I have my radio tuned to any of the local stations, you can hear an audible change in the music as it goes from stereo (individual left right channels), going to mono (flat sound out of both left and right). Switching the channel, or source, and going back to the original will fix the problem, for about 10 seconds.

It only does it on the FM channels. XM, bluefusion, and CD don't have this problem.

I have an 04.5 GMC Envoy. With a Saab navigation radio.

Don't FM radios in general drop to mono when there is a weak signal?

I could be sitting next to the tower and it will do it. Signal is not the problem, either the amp or radio, but looking for suggestions.

If you are next to the tower it can overdrive the input of the radio and cause it to be confused by the signals.

Missing the point. Doesn't matter the station, signal strength, etc. It always does this. I live fairly close to Denver, and stations that my avalanche and my aztek get in stereo, my Envoy starts in stereo and then goes to mono.

I wonder if your antenna has a problem someplace in the coax... If it is damaged it can cause the issue.
