Getting ready for a small road trip (first for my envoy), and went to check on the spare tire and well....long story short the winch got stuck and i had to cut the cable. I dont want to spend the $100+ on a new one. Anyone have any other ways of storing the spare?

Front seat if you have MIL issues. 
My cable safety catch is rusted and I need to replace mine as well. I turned the tire upside down and it hasn't budged in months. I will be replacing the winch soon but the design pretty much keeps the cable from dropping on it's own without the winch being turned by the handle.

my winch is also broken; it was when I got my truck 8 months ago.
When i find a new spare tire from the junkyard with a 17" rim for the gmt360 platform I think I might put it on the roof until i feel like dishing out the 100 bucks for a new winch.

Maybe you could do a sick mod with a tire carrier from a s10 blazer or jimmy or jeep? Might be kinda cool
you would probably have to relocate license plate too.

1. fix the winch
2. put inside the truck
3. tie to roof
4. install rear hitch spare tire rack.
4a install front hitch, then front hitch spare tire rack.
5. leave spare at home. (if is the original, it probably will not last long on the road anyway. check the date code on the spare)
